Hello, I was just wondering if anyone can tell me do I really need extra straps to tie down and if the Peggy peg sets are worth the extra cost ?
Thanks

I think it depends on how you use the wind out awning. I always put pegs in the feet, a freek gust can have the awning take off and damage it. I don't have any sides on mine, so always put it away if there is any chance of wind. I have got storm straps and have used them if the ground is not so good (belt and braces, as my dad used to say).Hello, I was just wondering if anyone can tell me do I really need extra straps to tie down and if the Peggy peg sets are worth the extra cost ?

When I extend my awning fully, the arms sort of lock out. When its turned back it tensions the fabric. I agree, if its half way, you can't tension the fabric., so tie down straps are your best friend. There is no way you can properly deploy the awning without guy ropes/straps.
Windout and peg legs properly.
Attach guy ropes/straps attached to top of legs at 45o to awning.
Wind back awning to tension fabric.
You cannot tension fabric without guy ropes/straps without damaging the leg connection to awning rafter.
It has happened that if the arms are over extended they can jam and won’t fold in correctly as expected. When I extend my awning fully, the arms sort of lock out. When its turned back it tensions the fabric. I agree, if its half way, you can't tension the fabric., so tie down straps are your best friend.
I have always been worried breaking the gearbox over stressing it getting the awning back in, my assistant (wife) is on hand to push the one you can't reach in. All good.
So, am I doing this incorrectly. I teried googling this and searched on the forum when I first got the Cali but never found any information about it. The videos on youtube just show it going out, tensioning and just winding back in ( with no help on the arms).
In 4 years I’ve never pegged down my awning once - just don’t put it out/put it away when it’s very windy … maybe I’ve been lucky …Hello, I was just wondering if anyone can tell me do I really need extra straps to tie down and if the Peggy peg sets are worth the extra cost ?

I always use the standard pegs in the feet at 45 degrees, but never tie down straps.
