The lacquer but not the paint is lifting in many places on external plastic trim pieces - ie not main main metal panels. When it separates from the paint the lacquer then turns yellow instead of clear. The pain below seems to be intact but I have this discoloured bubble over it. This is happening in many places on the roof, the side body trim pieces and the corner rear trim below the lights. It's a 15 year old vehicle. Has anyone else had this and how did you deal with it. Could I remove it and pain a clear fresh lacquer over it to protect the paint. I don't really want to take it to a paint shop who have advised it would need removing all trim pieces, replacing many of them that won't replace easily and respraying before replacing. Not only will that cost several thousand pounds but as it is red I very much doubt that any respray will be a perfect match that lasts. In my experience it will always end up fading differently to original paint. All suggestions welcome!

Wrapping ? Check with your insurance company first, some won’t cover it.

It hasn't been wrapped, this is all original as far as I know. Just wondering if anyone has added their own lacquer/top coat.

Has the van had paint repairs in the past? It is fairly common for the lacquer to lift after paint repairs....i.e. not prepared or aplied to teh same standards as the vehicle factory.

The plastic should not have lacquer (clear coat) over them. At the Favtiry , plastic trims are fitted to the body after the paint had been applied.

If the plastic trims have a clear coat applied , I would suggest your van has already been painted incorrectly at some stage, i.e. trims not removed before clear coat applied, which would make little sense to overspray plastics with clear coat, it will simply lift and peel.
If the plastic have been sprayed with clear coat, what you are seeing is the result of the previous poor work. (Probably cost cutting)

What I don't understand is you mention the plastic but then say the "paint below" suggesting the bodywork is affected also ?

Are the affected areas :
The metal panels ?
The plastic ?
Or both ?

It sounds like you've already taken a professional opinion, who have suggest remedial works ?

Some photos may assist in gaining some understanding and appropriate advice from the Forum.
