Morning all, I'm after a bit of advice from anyone who has done similar. I've booked a last minute trip to southern France next week, in an effort to get just a little more sun before the weather closes in for the winter. We're travelling Portsmouth, Caen and arriving around 10:30PM, the current plan is to drive south for an hour or so and then lay up for the night somewhere, before driving the rest of the way the following day. This will be a new experience for us as we've always pre-booked into campsites before, but because we're arriving so late and will only be using it for sleeping, we're looking at this as an alternative.

We're currently looking at autoroute and municipal aires along the N158 and A88, Caen, Falais, Argentan, Sées. Has anyone else done something similar and have any recommendations/ experiences? Can municipal aires be accessed late at night? Our only requirements are that we need toilets and for it to be relatively safe, we're travelling with our grown up daughter.

Many thanks

Hi, we stayed here recently on our trip back to the UK just before the ferry. Very convenient!

The Municipal Aires we have stayed at didn't lockup at night. Someone used to come round or open the office at 8am to take payment. You could email to check.
My French isn't so good so I used Google Translate to also give a French version of my email. Always got a response.

Try campingcarpark.com
They’re ok and convenient for 24 hour access.
A lot of the municipal sites in France are now managed by campingcarpark.com anyway.

I agree, it’s so convenient and the real time space availability is a godsend.
