Dear All,

The leisure batteries are just about dead on my Ocean TDI Auto T6.1 2022. I had a T5.1 for seven years before this without issue. I suspect the leisure batteries were shorted when the fridge (switching off randomly) was replaced under warranty, as that is when they stated to go downhill. The addition of a solar panel has help draw out the inevitable replacements, but the final trip on the first batteries is soon (~20% of normal run-time).

I have read many threads on upgrading and it would appear that the Varta LA80 AGM 840 080 080 are suitable, being of correct size with a slightly higher amperage 80 vs 75 XX. I am happy to install these myself electrically and mechanically having watched videos/ read threads/ looked at wiring diagrams. However, some threads suggest that the batteries need to be registered on the T6.1. Although there are different views. So, a couple of questions.

  • Do they really need to be registered, or is this just desirable?
  • How is this done? I can’t see any information on what I would need (tools and process) to do to change the coding.
If anyone knows the definitive answers, that would be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance,

Martin

Starter batteries are registered. Never seen a way to register leisure batteries. Happy to be corrected.

Only a replacement ENGINE battery needs to be coded to the vehicle.

Many thanks
