Could I have some advice about a OBD2 scanner. I have a Vauxhall Combo as well as my T5 California. Which make and mobile would you recommend?

Looking back I asked a similar question in 2021 re my VW sharan, did not buy one then , no idea why. Assume things may have changed in the last 4 years so asking again.

If it’s just for the VW then a VCDS license at approximately £160 is all you’ll need.

Plenty here use Carista but I’ve no experience of that.

Thanks . At present the need is for the Vauxhall so looks like I will need to wait for other comments. We only want to be able to see the codes to see what is wrong so we can contact a garage with more info and have an idea if we can or not drive the car. We have a 3 year guarantee on the car but the garage we got it from is a long way away. Should have got one a long time ago as it would have been useful for the notifications we have had in the past on the van. Van messages have mainly related to the tyres. The car has come up with a very unhelpful message " engine problem" and no more info. This incident has at last made us think we should get one.

I have a carista device but use the “car scanner” app which is free and I think does everything that the paid version of carista does. I’m sure very basic compared to VCDS but gives an error code that you can then put into google for more info and probably meets your need of just wanting a bit more info without taking to a garage. Should work on any vehicle with an OBD2 port I think.

Great, thanks will investigate. Actually I will now give my husband the fun of investigating.
