Just changed the wipers on the van to Bosch Aero twin and they have started juddering like crazy.

Never had a problem before with the old wipers which I assume were the originals.

The windscreen is clean, just treated with rainex, I've tried switching them round and loosening the bolt but neither worked.

Only other thing I can think of is removing the rainex, which isn't easy.

Anyone else had the same problem? Any suggestions.

Did you polish windscreen with soft cloth ?
Removal rain-x can be done with Glaco glass compound, it will remove any sealant ,oil, dirt.
In the cali manual the use of rain-x is advised not to use, don’t know why.

Yeah a microfiber cloth. Usual cleaning routine. Autoglym polar blast snow foam, autoglym uhd wash, autoglym fast glass, then rain x. First time using rain x.

Do you still have the original wipers then try if they work better in combination with rain-x ?

Unfortunately not as I replaced them a few weeks ago but only used the van in the rain this week.

Did you buy from a reliable source?

Bosch Aero twin are the wipers of choice for most drivers, and there are known to be fakes out there.

Glaco’d windscreen, applied rainx, also rainx winscreen wash, new bosch wipers and hey presto -Judder judder?

Also judder with old wipers after treating windscreen but not before.

I do think its the rainx? not the wipers.

Very useful info thanks. Weirdly I've since noticed that the wipers don't judder when the windscreen is dry, only once it's wet.

All I can say is that my Bosch Aeros don’t judder and I don’t have rain x.
Same for me and I also don’t use rain x.

The original VW supplied blades juddered.

Had the same problem - got the van all shiny and rain x the windscreens and changed the wipers - they started juddering all over the place - and i think one came off in a storm. Been through a few sets since in fairly quick succession - so would advise taking the advice to remove it seriously - awful stuff. During the storm I had no wiper and rain x - lets just say it was sub- optimal !

Could we put the question to Rain-X customer service?

An internet search for this problem (rain-x aero twin wipers judder) yields many interesting results.
They claim, among other things, that treating the wipers with the same coating can solve the problem.
what i remember from reading other sources:
It is important to wipe the windshield dry thoroughly and allow Rain-X to adhere to the glass for a while, and then run the wipers on a dampened windshield. Do not wait for a rain shower; do this immediately after treatment with Rain-X. Only a minimal layer of Rain-X should be present on the windshield before using the wipers.
Some report improvement after repeatedly cleaning the treated windshield and wipers.

Taken in by the Glaco / rain x and took the time to prep etc, sadly i was lost but now i’m found. Going back to the standard fare!

In 1981 i saved my apprentice “wages” paid over in cash in a brown window envelope weekly (very weakly) £17.75p and bought a technics hi-fi, it was brilliant until i read a magazine that said an upgrade to oxygen free copper speaker cables would make it sound better. It didn’t.

Ah what you should’ve done was take one corner of each curtain at the bottom and pin it up in a small triangle. Makes a huge difference to the sound - allegedly. Room acoustics.
A hifi fanatic told me that once with a straight face!!!

The joy of travelling solo is I don't need a shower :D. I just go to a campsite/leisure centre when the dog starts to avoid me :bananadance2

Try a bit of WD-40 on them. Spray it on a paper towel and run the towel over the blades.

Update on this issue. Removed the rainex and the judder stopped instantly.

Rainx is a pain to remove for sure, but this stuff did it in no time at all.

Rainx isn't a bad product. I've been using it for years on various cars with no issues. Some wiper springs are stronger than others meaning that the wipers are pushed harder onto the screen, and this is apparently what causes the problem on some cars.

Have you tried cleaning the wiper blades with methylated spirit, this gets rid of all the traffic film build up on the wiper blades and also help with the longevity of the wiper blade

Two year old Cali, 9000 miles, use rain-x, VW wipers judder like mad.
New Bosch Twin Aero blades with rain-x, no judder.
I think the problem might be that the vehicle remains parked for long periods, facing into the sun without the wipers being used. The blades just get flattened to one side. I bet after a while the new ones will also start to judder.
I think the fact that that rain-x means that water does not adhere to the windscreen as much may be a possible contributing factor, because l have developed the habit of using the wipers intermittently in light rain.
What an interesting subject !!
