We’ve previously been tent, caravan and Motorhome users and after a few years away from camping and really missing the outdoors decided to ditch one of our cars and buy the California Ocean. We’ve watched loads of videos (we particularly like California Chris) and love all the ‘must buys’ from other videos and now wondering if a drive-away is worth purchasing - there’s just the 2 of us.

My advice would be buy a 2nd hand one off here and try it, we found it a lot of effort to setup / takedown as we only tend to do 3 days max in one place. You may camp differently so could be great for your needs. Point I make is buy a cheap one, you can sell on here later if you need to (that is what we did).

I would start with a reasonably priced kitchen tent from Decathlon before getting the awning. I don't particularly see a strong enough advantage in having the extra space attached to the vehicle as opposed to having it free standing close by.

We have the cove 3 air for longer stays and a backroads for shorter stays, both work well.

10 yrs with our California and never had a drive away awning. What we did have were nylon tarpaulins 6' x 6' that we could attach to the awning as wind/rain or sun screens if wanted.
