T7 California Ocean 4 Motion
We sold our California a couple of years ago which we owned for nearly 10 years and changed to an ID Buzz with no regrets. We have missed the internal kitchen at times as we now have a Cali Beach style conversion in the tailgate consisting of twin induction hob, sink and pull out drawer. Extra bed width like all you lucky Beach owners experience is another bonus.

Tonke in Netherlands have just teased their latest ID Buzz explorer which looks fantastic, not only does it have functional inside outside kitchen, unlike the new Cali which is let down by the glass hinged lid, you can also have a third option of completely removing the kitchen!

It’s great to see such a clever design. Based on this, I now have real hope that VW should be able to produce a Cali Buzz to rival the T7 Multivan in the coming years.

Hope you like the photos I have taken from their video. Let’s try to keep this post about the conversion and not post about mileage range as we all know the Buzz range from other posts.

Can you pin in a link to the video I can’t find it

Looks great - only OT comment I'll make is that I'm looking at one for a family car to replace my LR Disco 5. But that's what makes me so interested in new threads on the Buzz in general.

Glad you're enjoying yours as a camper - I'm really taken by the aesthetics and practicality

Looks amazing.
Love the roof although that design rules out one very important use cases of mine : raise the roof but don't put out anything else eg for sleeping on the motorway aires or in car parks

100% agree, sometimes you just want that standing up space but this could be a pain if it compromises that need.

If you look at the second image by the OP, it clearly looks like it is designed as a pop top, so the internal headroom can be expanded.
But obviously if you regularly camp in places that don’t allow for awnings etc then this solution probably isn’t for you. :thumb

Us too.
We’re looking into the 6 seater version.
Will wait for the 12-15 month used vans to hit the market next year.
I think it will be great for the family duties around town etc.

If I had my time again, I would have waited for a nice used one, benefit from first year depreciation of approx 30% making it approx £47k.

We have been keeping records of our charging sessions during the past two years. 8000 miles per year has resulted in electric charges of £340. This is a mix of home ac charging and public dc charging. I think diesel in our 2010 Cali for 8000 miles would be aporox £1700 based on £1.40 per litre.

We will always miss certain bits about the Cali, but the smooth quiet drive with a squeak free interior is well worth it. Bring on the full electric California please VW.

Cooking outside in the Peak District in February is not my idea of fun.

You can cook inside, partially outside, or fully remote with the Tonke. That’s what’s great about it and goes one step further than the new T7 Multivan Cali.

And forget the NC500 or any rural destination in Scotland, especially in the summer. The midges would eat you alive. A VW Cali in MV let alone Buzz flavour is going to mean huge compromises for most users.
And why would this be a squeak free driving experience? Once the panels have been messed around with and cabinetry installed, the chances are good you'll have more than enough noises to keep you company.

Sorry, I was referring to our standard Buzz with fridge and induction cooktop regarding quiet and squeak free. Charging infrastructure is fine in far south (Cornwall) it sounds very different up north.

Put me out of my misery and let me in on the reasons why Scottish midges are more virulent to MV and Buzz owners. As one who is like a three course lunch to a midge, this factor could be a deal breaker. :sorry

They're not. Just need to Midge proof. Can't see the MV being anymore difficult to do than a T6.1

It’s the new car smell: attracts the critters
