Hi all,
After years of big estates and SUVs we’ve finally taken the plunge and bought a VW California T7 Beach, due in the next week or two.
We went for the Beach rather than an Ocean/Coast as we see it more as a family people carrier that we can occasionally sleep in, rather than a full mini camper. Day to day it’ll mostly be family duties, school runs, bikes, dog, weekends away etc.
This summer we’re doing a 5 week European road trip and the California will be coming with us. At this stage we’re not actually planning to overnight in it on the trip, but the idea is to have the flexibility for day stops, making brews/lunch, escaping bad weather and potentially the odd spontaneous stop if we fancy it.
We’ll definitely be doing a few test nights at home first (we’re in the Lake District, UK) to see how we get on sleeping in it and whether it’s something we enjoy.
For those already in the California/camping world, what would you say are the genuine “must have” accessories or bits of kit for a beginner? I’m trying to avoid buying loads of tat we’ll never use.
Things I’m already thinking about are:
• Fridge/cool box
• Levelling ramps?
• Portable power / battery
• Chairs/table extras
• Storage solutions
• Blackout/privacy bits
• Cooking gear for simple lunches/brews
Anything you bought and now wouldn’t be without? Equally, anything everyone says you need but you never actually use?
Thanks
