When the previous owner told me that the original dealer said the California app was a game changer and then was unable to connect and gave up and the last owner was unable to connect too and gave up, this seemed like a simple challenge; however, after speaking to Volkswagen support, spending probably the best part of an hour on the phone with them, the assistant gave up to escalate the case.

Emails then went back and forth asking me to try various resets, turning off Android Auto. Resetting Wi-Fi, soft reset etc. till they gave up and told me to take it to a VW dealer, preferably the original which isn't very practical given I'm in the south and the original dealer is up norf.

Now that I've spent so much time on it, I just want it to connect. Madly enough, the Volkswagen app, the We Connect, connects absolutely fine.

Hit me with ideas I've not tried.

Been there and got the badges!! There are a few historic posts on this.

Earlier this week, I thought I had narrowed it down to a conflict with Android Auto, but after disabling Android Auto, the connection is still very flaky.

With perseverance I can get it to connect on our 2024 Ocean, but more often than not it will drop the connection after a few seconds.

In reality, when it does connect, the only function I find useful is the lighting control if you are sleeping in the pop top and forget to turn off the lighting downstairs.

Other than that, perhaps the roof closure is handy if you are on your own and want to stand outside to check that the bellows aren't getting caught. But it's pretty obvious if there is a problem if you peer up through the sliding hatch from the driver's seat as the roof starts to close.

If you do end up finding a reliable fix, please share!!!!!

Have you had the major update on the infotainment system? It’s much more reliable than before.

I had a major update a few weeks ago which pre-dates the connection issues I was experiencing last week.

There is another update running now which appears to have frozen!! From the text description on the screen this seems related to the Shop, but perhaps there are other tweaks in there as well.

My Cali is going to the dealership on Wednesday for the following :

Brake Fluid
Carry out outstanding Campaign. Number: 23BB
Carry out free Vehicle Health Check
Carry out outstanding Campaign. Number: 19W9

23BB is the ECU update, 19W9 has something to do with replacing a coolant hose.

I'll mention the App connectivity to them when I drop it off and see if they have any suggestions.
Also if the latest update is still frozen, they can look at that as well.
