Net pocket in roof

We’ve just changed our 2016 California to a 2023 and there is this net pocket under the sliding roof hatch which hangs down on our heads when the roof is up and makes the hatch hard to close when the roof is down.What are peoples opinions on the use of it or do people unscrew it and remove it .We find it a nuisance so far.

Not entirely sure what you mean (a photo would help) but it doesn't sound factory, is it something that the previous owner added?

It's a child safety net , unclip it from the attachment points on the roof and simply remove it

Ah, the unscrewing it bit confused me. If its the safety net then just unclip it.

I suspect no one ever really falls out of the roof and this net was only ever to satisfy some random EU safety law.

I don't think this is the child net, I've got a net that came as part of an options pack (storage?) the pulls over the opening just on top of the hatch. Actually find it quite useful to store things on when sleeping up top (also caught a pillow a few times) and also catches the bellows when lowering the roof. If want to remove you can probably unscrew the rails it runs on and slip the net out.

Personally I really like it - helps me keep the folded roof neatly in place when I slide the hatch (fold first, then slide the net back under the pushed up folded canvas, then slide hatch forward).

I agree this net can hang down but I have got into the habit of rolling it over itself when I am sitting on a rotated front seat. It is useful when sleeping upstairs.

However, I have the older canvas and perhaps with the new roof fabric things are tighter? I do pay a lot of attention to a really crisp envelope like fold of the fabric, so that it has minimal thickness when stowed, before sliding the net backwards and closing the hatch.

Great in the day for books and phones etc. When closing the roof pull the net backwards on both sides, its on a rail. So it ends up behind your head when sitting in the driving seat if that makes sense. This makes it far easier when closing the roof.

Agreed. Personally if I am sitting in a rotated front seat, I put a tape around it:

and when I drop the roof I like to first organise the canvas hanging down:


and then slide the net backwards:


before closing shutter:


I have found it best to insist that my wife stays in the back during this exercise, to avoid elbowing her.

If the net your referring to came unfixed it is likely a child safety net, which is a different item to the factory fitted 'net pocket' in the pictures above.

I don’t know if you can get it separately, it’s fixed to a pair of factory fitted bars that run either side of the opening hatch.

Just remove one of the stews holding the bars and slide it off.

FWIW I just slide it to the rear and tuck it up before sliding the slidy cover forwards, then close the roof.

As mentioned above we just undid the screws and slid it off, leaving the rails on. We found it just got in our way all the time. While the child safety is clearly not this, we have a 2 year old and on occasion she sleeps up. The child net does exactly what it is meant to as she still rolls about.

So... I can find the parts (thanks Perfectos), will this fit the T7 pop-top without issues? Consider what I've seen in the T6.x the roofs look identical with the exception of the sliding closure panel. This seems a really useful addition.

Given that there are based completely different vehicles I would be surprised if something designed for the T6.x would fit the T7, and vice versa.

The roofs might be similar but I doubt they are identical.

Slide the corners to opposite ends of the bar to flatten it when not in use. We find it a useful storage area when sleeping upstairs and sometimes for downstairs activities.
