Everyone has a First Aid kit, but one thing it probably doesn't have in it is Cloves, and it should.

Toothache and any problem with teeth while off and away is quite literally a real pain, and finding a good dentist anywhere nearby even more of one.

The best and most effective pain relief many aren't aware of if they get toothache is to chew a few cloves. Pop in a couple and add one at a time until you're chumbling on around 8. Oil in cloves mixes with saliver and generates a natural anesthetic that in a few minutes kills the pain. They're a trifle bitter tasting to start, but after a while actually quite pleasant and since they're a spice they're digestable.

I split a tooth recently. Absolute agony. Chewed cloves. Pain disappeared.

We always have a pot of them in the van, just in case.

I find some (probably a little too much) of this helps immensely with most ailments
A fellow customer of a certain online retailer? Gold top even better.
Angostura bitters is a much more effective (alcoholic) remedy; knowledge passed to me by a barman over fifty years ago.
Edit: Angostura bitters usually contains cloves, that's probably why it works.

Possibly how it got its name. After a glass or two I'd the directional control of a one-legged hippo so its then a toss-up between drowning the pain or getting to a dentist :)

Agree. Good tip. I also carry toothypegs for adhoc crown replacements or lost fillings. Things you learn during covid!
Clearly, I would choose to get to the dentist first but on longer or more remote journeys, I reckon it could be a benefit.
Bet there are other van related repairs you could use it for as well!

Good tip, thanks, not heard of this option before. I was searching for this and found spelling to be ‘Toofypegs’, it seems no longer available from Amazon, Superdrug etc., but there are alternatives.

The Gold top is for special ailments, this one is for everyday one's.

Thanks, didn't have the packet to hand. I got it at our local chemist a couple of years ago.

Slightly off tangent, but came to the rescue earlier today of another VW Camper where they had cut there thumb on a knife but had no plasters
