Just had my renewal quote from Caravanguard and find some of their terms overly restrictive for a vehicle like the California that can be used as a regular family car. In particular, CG will not cover for theft other than at the home address or when “in use” - defined as being used and occupied overnight for holiday purposes.

Perversely they are happy to include commuting on the policy, but presumably this only covers accidents and not theft from work.

A regular car policy eg LV that seem popular on here will not have this restriction, but will also not have the motor home-specific cover elements eg £5000 of equipment/belongings.

LV somewhat cheaper too, but not massively.

I use mine as pretty much my daily and when the MH specific policies said if i slept inside a friends house and it was parked outside i wouldn't be covered, then it wouldn't have worked for me, LV contents were a little limited for me, but figured what's the likelihood that someone would break in and steal my food/beer/pots etc, also LV was quite cheaper even including business use. i think it depends what you use your van for most.

It’s the day van scenario I’m most bothered about. I’ll often use the van for a day trip out into the peaks with my bike, it’s perfect for this. I don’t want to think it’s not insured while it’s sitting in a car park for a couple of hours, seems insane.

I'd agree, I use mine also for my bike, so it was an easy choice for me (and it was cheaper) to go with LV.
