I've perfected my California office. After returning a few cheap Chinese portable monitors to Amazon that were rendering text too blurry (well I still have one of those) I got an LG 2560x1600 monitor with a 16:10 aspect ratio like my MacBook Pro 16”.
It would not be very sharp except at its default resolution which however makes text too small.
The trick is an app called BetterMonitor, who tricks macOS to treat also a sub-4K monitor as a retina display. So I can scales it to about 1700x1100 (about the Mac’s built in display default) and have fonts that remain crisp as !It's basically like having a dual 16" Mac.
