Looks like the end of the road for great value LV Cali insurance.

Do an online comparsion via a well known website . I dropped mine down from £490 to £260. Wording was exactly the same as Comforts and the suspension mods were noted. Been with the CCC for years and they kept upping the price. £320 > £360 > £420 >£490

Tried Comfort, but they were abrupt, upped the price by min 15% for the suspension works, and demanded to see photos of each suspension leg......I very much doubt that had any clue what they were looking for. Any trailing arm and spring is still a trailing arm and spring.
I am a bit late picking up on this thread, however could you tell me which comparison site you refer to?
Thanks. :thanks

Mine renewed on a LV multicar policy last month and was cheaper then last year at £220. Mine is listed as an MPV on the V5 so maybe they are just targeting campervan on V5 as that is all they will see.

We've just had to pay an increased premium, £653. They obviously don't like insuring an 80 year old who lives in Watford. LV quote was better than Comfort. The only advantage with Comfort is the new for old, but as you you can't get a new 6.1 Cali, l don't know how that works.

As an 80+ year old, I am now into my second year with Ripe insurance, £313 last year fully comp, UK only; 4k miles; UK breakdown including home start. Premium this year £272. Very effficient for admin over the phone, yet to be tested on effectiveness in the event of an accident, I hope that never happens!
The insurance product passes all of the @WelshGas tests.

some good info here (esp. the LV / Allianz piece, thank you).

I've used both LV and Admiral over the last 10-years - I have to leave my van 'parked on the street at home address' & they gave the best, and occasionally 'only', quotes.

Just tried LV for our soon to be delivered T7 Beach - £370 for a 40ish couple living in a Newcastle suburb with long no claims, etc.
LV quoted me £228, with a £750 excess. I've other quotes that are double that with half the excess, not had my renewal quote from CAMC yet but I don't think they offer great value. Only got one year ncb on the van, but use 9+ ncb on the car, which suggests a multi vehicle policy might be a way forward.
Comfort won't insure my post code, suspect some high value vehicle thefts in neighboring villages (not recent) might have put them off, but as posted above I also found them 'abrupt' to the point of not wanting to use them even if I could. The quote I had from Adrian flux via compare the market seems to include a 'free' tracker thing, I suspect similar to the one I bought for £30 for other purposes.

Just received an email this evening from LV telling me they won't be able to renew my Cali insurance in October :(
They say that due to a change in their underwriting arrangements they will no longer be able to insure Campervans and Motorhomes.
Has anyone else received the same message?

They intend to pass my details to Gallaghers who will provide a quote unless I instruct them not to share my details within the next few weeks.
I will wait and see what Gallagher's quote, but based on previous quotations from several insurers, I suspect a doubling of my premium will be inbound shortly.
I must have been lucky - renewal September on multi car policy and premium lower than previous years - v5 shown as motor caravan

I'm going to have to bookmark this as LV wouldn't quote based on my Reg??

Anyway, just thought I'd say I ended up renewing with CAMC and mine came down over £200 fro my first year.
Still a scary £500 but having spent hours being knocked back with "we don't cover campers" I figured this was the best option when comparing cover v cost of those that do insure.

I’ve just spoken to LV and they will cover California’s from the year 2010.
Sadly mine is 2007 so doesn’t qualify to add onto a multi car policy

Had a very competitive quote from them recently for a 2022 California Ocean, they seem to recognise it as a car, worried on what cover they provide for the habitation side and potential camping accidents. If you have an LV policy are you happy with the cover, as very tempted to return to them.

Also need to ring Admiral as they would not quote online, but again see my Ocean as a car.

As a fellow 80+ having just paid £653 to LV, and you've just paid only £272, although a little late for this year I've just got a comparison quote.
Details:- Husband and wife drivers, both clean licenses, no accidents, no convictions, 8,000 miles pa, vehicle value £ 75,000 (tracker required), parked on private drive overnight. QUOTE £901.
They obviously don't like someone living in Watford, and love Deepingites.

I note that your Cali is a T7, so it will be covered by VW recovery. Perhaps you could get a better quote, as l see it was included in your renewal cost!
I must say their system for getting an online quote was good and easy to use.

I note that your Cali is a T7,
You have just alerted mte to this! I own a 2013 T5: I don't know how or when the T7 ownership appeared, it certainly wasn't me who changed it. I'm just about to try to correct it.
You are right in your assumption that I live in a rural backwater, which probably does make a difference.

Just to follow up, I added my car (Honda crv) as a multi vehicle policy (runs for 10 months from Feb), reduced the excess and paid £443 for the pair with LV. My renewal quote from CAMC was £587 just for the California.
I get this isn't quite like for like, CAMC seem to insure by value rather than vehicle and assume everything is a motorhome. Moving into second full year of ownership I understand much more about it now, though still learning. I went to the NEC show yesterday on the same basis, certainly saw it through different eyes !

They’ve stopped pinching them and started stripping them.
Broad daylight, 3 in a week.
This is an acquaintance car, £5k of bodywork damage plus the costs to repair/rewire the wiring looms. Potentially the insurance company may write the vehicle off…

Just catching up on this thread. My LV insurance renewed on Aug 26th and I now see that I’m covered as a VW CALIFORNIA T30 BEACH CAMPER TDI 150 AUTO where I used to be a VW MOTORCARAVAN or similar. When I originally got the van I remember some chat on here about whether an insurer would cover camping activities - like a fire caused by burning the sausages on hob in the van - and LV cover was considered good for this. Do people think this non-driving use is still covered by LV?
