Locking the van (including at night) - Oddly confusing

Hey Folks,

First weekend away in our new T7 Ocean was largely a resounding success, especially considering it was our first campervan experience ever.

We did however find it a bit confusing around locking, mostly at night.

Should you use the fob to lock at night, and disable interior monitoring, or just press the button by the drivers door (also ensuring interior monitoring is off?)

If you open one of the sliding doors and exit the van, are you then locked out if you don't have a key? (scenario: others in the van during the night, nipping out to the toilet)

The left side sliding door seemed to remain unlocked when I tested this, so was it actually locked in the first place?

Also, not sure if anyone else has found this but sometimes when pressing the buttons on the fob....nothing happens.

Then there is the infotainment which sometimes stubbornly stays on and the power button on the infotainment screen doesn't do anything.

On Saturday night we were watching a program on my phone and the sound was coming through the Cali speakers thanks to Android auto. However when we finished this, pressing the lock button didnt turn it off. I had to start ignition, turn off, lock car with fob - then it went off.

Also, is there a lock/unlock button anywhere else in the fan? Fumbling about in the dark to reach the button by the drivers door is a bit annoying.

This all seems a bit fiddly and inconsistent; any tips? Hopefully this is just rookie mistakes

Hi. Glad your first trip away was a success, other than you locking query.

I can’t help with the specifics of your new van, but on my Cali T6.1 I don’t lock the doors overnight when camping.

Once we’ve set up, I select ‘camping mode’ on the overhead control panel, which prevents all the lights inside coming on when sliding door is opened and the key is ‘to hand, but hidden’ at night.

We normally have our awning room out when camping and my Greyhound likes to move to his awning day bed early in the lighter mornings, so unless it’s cold the sliding door is open early.

I’m certain one of the resident experts will be along shortly to help with the specifics of your new van and I hope you find a solution to your ‘locking’ question, which works for you.

Think of it as "I use the key to lock the van when outside the van, I use the button inside the van to lock the van when inside the van". If you use the button inside, it already disables interior monitoring. If you use the button outside the van you need to disable the monitoring separately, how depends on your van, in case you have a dog inside for instance.

If you are camping you also need to use camping mode to enable and disable various lights and noises. Again, van depending how. Not directly related to doors and locking (on a 6.1).

If we are camping we put in camping mode and lock the doors at night with the door button. We then hang the keys up above the kitchen sink. Others strap keys to their bodies with various prison approved devices.

- I lock from the door buttons. Sometimes you need to press twice, I suspect if the vehicle is in some deep sleep mode
- once door opened, it stays unlocked. I press the door lock button again.

And the infotainment - yes, occasionally it's hard to turn it off. Opening the drivers door often helps.
