Check engine light came up on our 2024 Cali. Went to dealership for repair. Apparently it’s the lambda sensor, and the van centre said its engine out to repair….16 hours work. That’s mad. So glad it’s under warranty. Anyone else had this? It’s the 204 engine.

Nobody had this happen before? If it’s pretty rare I’m more confident it won’t reoccur.

Hopefully it is the sensor and not a secondary condition caused by EGR shenanigans?

Hopefully. It’s rather annoying as it'll be in the workshop for ages. Expecting to get it back this week at some point.

I'd be getting a second opinion as I cant believe a sensor that is threaded into the manifold is engine out?

Bear in mind a dealer wanted the whole front bumper off to change a sensor on an ID BUZZ (over £600), the owner bought the sensor from the dealership for £99 and changed it in the car park through the front grill whilst the service manage watched. It seems that common sense sometimes doesn't apply at dealerships!

Correct.

On the VW 2.0 TDI 204PS (BiTDI) engine—commonly found in the VW Transporter T6/T6.1—the Bank 1 Sensor 1 lambda sensor (upstream/pre-catalytic converter) is located at the front of the engine bay, high up, directly behind the turbocharger. [1, 2]

  • Location Specifics: It is situated directly on the exhaust downpipe, positioned between the firewall and the engine, just before the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF).
  • Access: It is accessible from under the hood, but easier to reach by removing the heat shield on the DPF/Turbo area. Removing the air intake/air box assembly can provide extra working space.
  • Part Number: Common part number for this sensor is 04L906262E.
  • Tool: A \(22\text{mm}\) lambda sensor socket with extensions is required

Gotta love AI. First paragraph directly contradicts the second.

I spoke to the garage. They’re adamant engine out is what the manual says to do, this is what they are doing and there’s nothing else wrong with it. Should be done by tomorrow afternoon.

Have them drain the oil too whilst at it. at lest get a free service for the inconvenience

Ha. It was only done 4 weeks ago. I have it back now. Drives fine. Was ready much earlier than expected….
