After 15 days on the continent of flawless running (apart from needing an oil top-up) - the T7 beach decided it wouldn't open yesterday. VW came out and confirmed that the module that communicates with the keys has died so it's being picked up today on a truck for replacement.

Had a bit of palava as of course being a commercial vehicle they wanted to give us a van to drive about in (which isn't going to ferry kids to clubs very well!) but in the end they got us a Skoda from enterprise.

The headlights are also stuck on so at least we could admire the Skoda illuminated all night!

Body Controller (BCM) has probably failed, links with statement about the keys and the failsafe is that the lights switch on if the communication with the BCM is missing.

Oil top up????

That's what the VW man told my wife I believe, just disappeared on the back of a truck so hopefully an easy fix!

Yes, seems to be a thing with these engines, just needed 500ml or so - bit of a pain that it asked for it just as I was driving to the ferry!
Which engine you have in your beach?
Little or no measurable engine oil consumption is quite possible between oil changes.

But, a 2.0 L diesel engine could indeed use up 500 ml of engine oil over a 10,000-mile period, especially if there are long, sustained high-speed driving, heavy loads and high temperatures.
Having said that, I would expect there to be enough oil in the engine to tolerate this consumption between services (i.e. within the min/max volume when filled) .... which suggests it wasn't filled to the max at the oil service change. If it was, then you may want to investigate further (just sayin')

Not sure if this helps but having my T7 Ocean since March (approx 7k miles) I was away on a family holiday and received a warning the engine oil was needed but was safe to continue driving. I found a local Halfords and added 1L of oil.

Whilst I was surprised it needed oil, it did provide sufficient warning and ability to drive on.

Ffs. At least you were at home.

It's 9 months old so factory filled. It's also had about 7000 miles

New engines can burn a bit more oil than usual- while the piston rings bed in… at 7,000 miles, I would expect everything to be fully sealed.

I've topped mine up twice now with 1 litre each time. Currently at ~13K.
If it happens again I think I've got reason for concern!

You already have cause for concern!! 2ltr in 13k!!!
The engine probably holds 6 or 7 ltrs. With a 20k service interval (?) that’s almost 50% !!!!

I ve had the same... first liter in march... second end of july. mechanic at vw dealer told me it s normal... now I travel with an oli liter with me.

To be fair, while my van is being "fixed" (so far lookers newcastle are being pretty poor!) the Skoda Kodiaq they have supplied through a car rental company I have is also asking for 1L of oil so it's obviously a thing!
