Just invested (after a long hunt) in my new Cali Ocean T6.1 in Mojave Beige & love it. The perfect fit DSG 150PS motor. Still learning the installed tech! Folding mirrors work on controls but not on fob when locking. A solo camper seeking adventures far afield from Farnborough in Hampshire. Any tips, tricks, basic kit and encouragement will be well received! Have not named it yet

Welcome - good choice !

Mirrors need a long press when locking the van. You’re supposed to be able to change the function on locking in the ODB2 dongle menu but I’ve not been able to.

You could do worse than a version of your username - “Trendi” maybe?

You can change the mirrors to fold on locking with OBDEleven or similar.
However, they won’t unfold on unlocking though as they don’t have the memory module that other VW vehicles have (like my Tiguan).
They will only unfold when turning on the ignition.

Took me 4 years to learn the mirrors fold and windows go up on long press of “lock” on key fob

It's not the end of the world if you're missing something on your first few outings. Don't go buying stuff ahead of time on the basis of "it could be useful".
Keep a packing list for different kinds of outings, adding and subtracting after each one. The camper has less space than you think it does and moving sh*t back and forth becomes tiresome.

That said, there are obvious things that you know you will need, like the gas cylinder, EHU hookup cables for UK and EU and water purification tablets.

You can obviously raid your kitchen and bedroom for kitchen and sleeping gear but if you want to keep the camper in always ready mode you'll eventually want some of those things to always be there or in a dedicated storage space where you can transfer it to the camper without having to think too much.

I agree with the main thrust of your post and to build on it, what is obvious to some is not used at all by others. For example, I've never used water purification tablets and I often leave the EHU behind.
