About to take the plunge and really stuck between a 2021 Cali Ocean (biturbo 200 hp model and have read lots of good and bad on that engine) or a nearly new T7 coast. The ocean has an extra seat and a detachable tow bar so literally has all I need. The Coast has the warranty but I really like the T6.1. Will be a home from home office, weekend camper, daily driver. Appreciate this is a well trodden discussion and will just need to do my homework but any insights greatly appreciated

Same price? The Coast represents better value and nicer to drive (I’m told). For weekending it would be fine but for 2 weeks or more you will need to be VERY efficient at packing small and travelling light

Hi there,
For me the choice would be very simple.

I own T6, Ocean 200 bhp biturbo which I think is same as you are looking at to buy. Engine is one thing and all the rest is the other. My has 105000 km and no issues just changing oil, touch the wood.

But as for the other I keep saying that T6 was the last good model they launched, T6.1 didn’t bring anything better just little worse. But I would definitely take T6.1 not T7.

T7 is advertised as a car not a van. It does drive better and looks more like a car. But all the rest relating to camping is worse that in older models. So if only going for a day or two take T7. Anything longer you will feel the difference very quickly.

Have you investigated whether you could take up a manufacturer's warranty on the T6.1?

May I ask how much the two vehicles are?

£59k t6.1 has 26.5k miles (Oct 21 reg) and t7 (late 24 reg) has 9.5k miles. Both have full service history etc.

I can do a used VW service plan for sure not sure about anything beyond that

Might be worth asking a VW dealer to see what you can do and what the cost would be. It might give you some reassurance.

Appreciate the insight and it echoes what I felt when inside the two vans back to back. Deposit paid on the t6.1 this eve
