Hello - again

GrannyJen, one of the names my husband knows, even though I am the one ‘on the forum’. I read out those words of wit and wisdom over our morning coffee,
We’ve had technical advice and help and a good many chuckles too, so good to hear ‘your back’.
A heartbreak of grief needs a helping hand to heal, Lady Jo looks like a good place to start, it’s a beautiful wee boat. I don’t know enough about the Caddy or Beach to comment but I’m sure either would complement your adventures. I can see a good old bicycle strapped up top and being a dog lover I can’t imagine a narrow boat without a wee dog sitting up top as ‘assistant’.
Looking forward to hearing of your adventures and lots of pics.

Thank you xx. Finding the right 4 legged crew mate is something I am working on at present, just waiting for the right one x

Welcome back @GrannyJen.
Hopefully the new boat, the new van search and the forum banter will ease your loss.
The boat looks really nice.
Looking forward to hearing about the van search and your boat adventures.

Hope you find the right wee crew mate. Lots of wee rescue laddies and lasses, many who need a loving home and a new start

It's finding the right adoption agency though. I have lost the will to live dealing with Dogs Trust and the RSPCA, Battersea is on a pause and two others have told me that I am too far away for them to plan a home visit. Clearly they have never heard of ZOOM.

Agree. They make it so difficult and in the next breath complain that not enough people come forward to adopt. I can understand why so many choose to go direct to a breeder. They can't seem to join the dots. I can understand they want to check on potential adopters but there is a big difference between a family with young children and an older couple or singleton who want a companion to replace a pet They have lost. But rules are rules and common sense doesn't seem to play a part.

Couldn't agree more....
I remember when we visited one of the Charities, it was almost like they were trying to put us off saying you don't want that one because it bites, that one rips things up, that one's no good with children (even though ours were older teens) etc etc... nearly every dog had a reason we shouldn't be looking at.
Ended up with an amazing Parsons Russell from a local Breeder and was happy paying without all the hassle and excuses.

Meet Loki!! Settled right in to Van Life too! IMG_7730.jpg

Have you tried Clymping Dog Sanctuary (next door to Ford station).

Oh bless!! My rocky was a parsons JRT. He had more character in his little dew claw than a lot dogs. Adorable. I would love a JRT.

These days a lot of charities don't even let you in the place to look. You have to fill out a form and they decide what dog is best for you. I sent a jobsworth at the dogs trust a picture of my darling, adorable Max a couple of days ago. I said "this is what happens when you let love at first sight do the choosing. WE were in the rescue centre looking for a small short-haired bitch and we came home with a shaggy boy GSD X Border collie".

It may take a while to get a wee soulmate, sometimes if you have a particular breed in mind contacting ‘specific breed rescues’. Or breeders may have a dog they’ve bred from and want rehomed.
I’m guessing a smaller dog would be more suited to narrow boat living.
We are friends with Labrador Rescue Scotland ( based in Wick ) and our current and last laddie were from there. Our first was from a pup ( to 14 yrs ) and as I’m sure you know a pup can be a real handful , I’m sure that’s not a route you want to take.
Hoping the right one comes along .

If you're looking for a canine companion that revels in boating and swimming, one of these is perfect for you.
