Habitation and gas check

Hi We’ve had our GC680 for four years and at no point has VW mentioned a habitation or gas check. Should VW carry this out or do I need to arrange for a third party to carry this out? Are there any legal requirements?

VW don’t do habitation checks. A lot of the wider network of Motorhome/caravan dealers have the capability to do them.

Ultimately they are your gas appliances and it’s up to you if you get them serviced. But your insurance may require an annual check, if you’re renting the vehicle you must get an annual check and if you are letting family borrow the vehicle you should get them checked.

Good advice.
However, I have to smile at this sentence “…we recommend using members of the Approved Workshop Scheme (AWS), so you can be confident you are using knowledgeable and well-trained experts.”
Given that even VW dealerships seem not to fully understand the camping side of a Cali, what hope is there that an independent will be competent beyond the basics of Cali habitation, which can fail with a changing breeze?
OK, a bit cynical perhaps, but for £300 I want to know that any service goes beyond what I can do myself for a few quid, albeit mostly visual, with a squirt of grease and simple plug-in electrics diagnosis.
So, has anybody ysed an AWS member, would you recommend them, and why?
