Hi all,
Please help out a german California-fan trying to visit your countries having warm food and a non-smelling baby
I will soon be touring from Germany for a 3-month parental leave tour to the British Isles - Mostly visiting Ireland, Wales, and (planned for the longest chunk) Scotland.
I am a bit concerned with the gas supply, especially in the Hebrides area / North Western Scotland.
So far I am equipped with a refillable Propane bottle that fits the gas cabin in the California (Coast/Ocean). But, as I was told, these (foreign, german) bottles are nowhere refilled in the UK. Is it true, and bringing that one would be just a waste of space, once emptied?
My plan as of now is to use the standard R907 campingaz cylinder instead again. But: As we are out and about for quite a while, and I expect a significant rise in our gas usage (travelling with a baby, so heating water and baby-porridge quite often) to drain that gas bottle soon-ish.
Can anyone comment on the supply situation for these campingaz R907/R904 refills, especially in the north-western area? I checked the store locator on campingaz.co.uk, but north-west of Inverness there's nothing shown. Where do you guys get your refills, when in a more remote location of the UK/Scotland?
An alternative would be using a local bottle. Is there anything available that fits into the gas cabin of the California and I can easily obtain locally? And then of course - how to attach it to the gas system? I found and ordered an adapter "British POL" that should fit to my pressure converter hose in that cabin, might that help?
And, last question: My "backup" cooker that I also use when sitting outside is a campingaz flat stove that uses these long "CP250" gas cartridges. I think these are readily available across the country, correct?
Best Regards,
Pjotre
