Hi there,
We get our new GC 680 from VW Finland next monday 28.3., so after some days.
How high is the place for gas bottle? Can I put here an Aluminium 11 kg gas bottle , which has hight 61 cm. Steel bottle should be ok, hight 57 cm. So difference 4 cm. But save in weight is 7 kg.
I would by the bottle beforehand and this will be a good information to know, critical 4 cm?

I use a 10KG Gaslite bottle it is 571mm high you can see in the photo below how much space there still is. I think you should be ok.

These bottles are only 5KG empty so a huge weight saving over the steel ones.IMG_4276.jpg

Thank´s a lot. According the photo you kindly sent it seems that no problems with 61 cm high Al-bottle. Fine.

What do you use in Europe? (I ask because I am sure that you will have found a solution).

Not decided yet - might just take two of those - will be fine in summer as we would use a site with hook up most days so gas would only be for cooking. As long as we can find beachside showers to rinse off salt water we won't need much hot water.

If winter Skiing I would always have hookup except for nights en-route so 20Kg of gas should be fine.

These days as I cant be bothered cleaning a Cadac we also carry a small stove that runs off the disposable canisters for outside cooking so that covers emergencies / running out.

We think that 11kg only for cooking is enough for quite a long trip. We have diesel-heating.

Hi @andyinluton. I’m hopefully taking delivery of my new GC600 in the near future. I’ve already purchased the gaslite bottle, but notice that the Cali has a regulator built in to the system. So what hose / adapter are you using to connect the cylinder to the Cali?

Hi @andyinluton We have just taken delivery of our GC600. We have had trouble getting a 10kg bottle. We did get a Flogas 11kg, but it needed the standard push on regulator. From the photo it looks like you have an adaptor connected to the gas pipe, could you share details of it or let us know how you connected the paperwork to the propane regulator valve on the bottle?

Im pretty sure it was one of these & that one of the spare hoses that came with the van fitted it. The important thing is that it is just a connector not a regulator.

For this sort of thing a caravan place is a good place to get advice, almost all caravans have bulkhead regulators & lots of them use gaslite bottles.
