Hi everyone. Had our brand new T7 diesel California for little over a month and getting a bit alarmed about how much fuel it's using. I'm getting no more than 20mpg round town it's approx 35-40 on the motorway is this normal?

Thanks for any help!

My average over the first 500 miles is just over 42mpg but I don't do town driving. I do use it for commuting 17 miles each way and get around 40mpg - 12 miles on motorway and 5 miles start/stop. I also deliberately drive gently as I did notice that accelerating rapidly uses loads of fuel! Funny thing is I was thinking how amazing the economy was given the weight of the vehicle - I have a T7 California Ocean.

Looks on par with a new unbroken in engine and the manufacturer figures. The town ones are poor, but town figures from the manufacturer are based on continuous driving around town on a test rig. if you are driving in and out 2 miles, then your numbers right.

Are you sure it's a diesel? Only joking but those are petrol level.

I’m around 40/41 on motorways
High 30s elsewhere

If you’re doing a lot of 20/30mph driving you could also put it in eco mode to boost it a bit and just press down on the select to swap back to normal at any 40s+

A new engine, shouldn’t be to alarmed. Around town I have had worse. Wait until you have a few decent runs in.
My general use local trips 20-30 miles’ish 37-39 tank to tank. On a trip mostly motorway 44-45. Top speed 65-70. And sympathetic with the go faster pedal.
Get 5-10k on the clock and you will be smiling.

Forget how much and enjoy

Bob

Hi we have had our T7 for 2 months now averaging 49 mpg 20%better than our 6.1. Have done over 3k and we love this van. Took a little getting used to it but would not go back to anything else.

We too have had our T7 TDI 4 weeks and a thousand miles in returns 42.5mpg

Hello everyone, having worked for a motor manufacturer for nearly 20years I have had 65+ new cars. I normally cover 6000mls before handing them back to get another. I usually go for 5 of the same model before switching to another, I have noted over the years that there is a huge difference in mpg between vehicles of the same model (if that makes sense). I have a t7 California ocean diesel and I think I have a good one, on a 550ml trip this week it averaged 51.5mpg with a high of 53.5mpg. On a mix of motorway,A and B roads around Scotland. Two up and fully loaded with a lab in the back. After 550mls it’s showing an estimated 135mls left in the tank, the wife leaned over and took the photo while I was driving, motorways speeds at 65 to 70 and upto 60 on A roads, I’m really impressed with the economy.

I have a T7 Beach (TDI), and on long motorway journeys I usually use ACC set to 70 mph. I average around 45 mpg, with the best I've managed being 51 mpg.

For my daily 3-mile commute, I typically see around 29 mpg.

I'm not really driving any differently apart from using ACC, so I'm not sure why it's so much more efficient than my T6 Beach. I was under the impression it uses the same engine as the T6, so I'm curious to know where the improvement is coming from.

Yes our T7 was significantly more efficient than our T6.1, presume the engine may be slightly tweaked but maybe the bigger difference is in the new chassis / body, more sleek / aerodynamic etc

It was a 40 coming into a 30… just keeping up with the traffic :D
Nope! It says 45 in big letters and wouldn’t display 30 as the limit unless you’d gone past the sign. The 1500rpm shows you still had your foot on the accelerator rather than slowing down.

Anyway well done with the fuel consumption my T6.1 4motion was doing about 24mpg on average - either stop start in London or attempting to break the sound barrier on the M1

I would be interested to see T7 figures for say 90 or 100mph on the autobahn as that would reflect more closely our usage when going to Spain through France.

2018 T6 150 Cali Ocean , rarely less than 35mpg, 45 - 50 on UK Motorways up to MWay limit, 50+ in France, Belgium & Netherlands........Less traffic, better roads?

Haha, since it's 'Pedantic Sunday' ....... 45 are numbers not letters....... and 100mph would have YOU breaking the speed limit in Spain and France  :D

(don't flame me! I'm only having a laugh :D)

T7 is a few hundred Kilos lighter than T6/6.1

Hi I have a T7 Ocean bought new September last year, it replaced my 6.1 Ocean 150 diesel, bought new September 24, both have been our every day transport, over the year and 21k miles in the 6.1 it managed 40.1 in that time, the T7 however, 150 diesel we have now covered 15k from new and averaged 46.8 which I think is remarkable for a van of that weight, also never had any issues at all, our 6.1 went back to the dealers on 3 occasions for lengthy problems, must say T7 is chalk and cheese when compared to our 6.1 what a difference so pleased we made the change and didn’t listen to all the doom and gloom merchants putting the T7 down, fantastic every day vehicle and great camper, we do a lot of travelling in the Outer Hebrides wild camping for 3 days then on a site for 1, T7 is superior in every way to our 6.1, your fuel consumption is not correct I would be back to the dealer something isn’t right, good luck

The same here, after 15 years away from camper vans I nearly didn’t order the new T7 after reading all the doom and gloom, but when I realised there are more issues with the older models ( yes I know there are lots more out there) I had a light bulb moment and thought the only way is forward. I can honestly say it’s been spot on and a joy to drive, everything works as it should and to coin a phrase “does exactly what it says on the tin”. Just had a full week in Scotland, two+ the lab and plenty of storage space unused. The big question I have asked myself is would I buy it again and the answer is a big YES I would.
