Fitting new backplate to Fresh water filler/EHU

Has anyone DIY fitted a replacement backplate for the fresh water filler cap and EHU? This is needed on my vehicle because the retaining flange (to which the cap connects) is disintegrating.
I am concerned about how much inside the van may need to be dismantled in order to disconnect the existing backplate and connect the replacement.
Any reassurances/directions on how to do it will be greatly appreciated.

Water Tank filler cap problem

We have a 2018 T6. The (original) water cap will not attach as per normal. Investigation results in the plastic filler-neck ring (which the lugs of the cap engage in) has come adrift.
