Extended warranty doesn't cover anything?

Latest update: the formal written complaint has unfortunately not led to any resolution.

I’ve now started a Small Claims action against the dealership.

I also got some written information from VW Ireland directly. Namely:
  • They confirmed that no extended warranty was ever registered against my van
  • They confirmed that my van was only covered by what they called a “used-car warranty”, which they specifically called out was not a manufacturer extended warranty.
  • Of relevance to the other Irish customers here who said they purchased the extended warranty: VW confirmed that at the time of my order and unlike what the dealership stated in writing at the time (2021/2022), VW Ireland did not offer an extended warranty (unlike in the UK). So if you were sold an extended warranty with your new California, it wasn’t the VW 5 year extended warranty as this didn’t exist in Ireland. It was a bullshit used-car warranty that doesn’t cover much (and in particular doesn’t cover habitation components or non-mechanical parts, making close to useless for a California).

Basically you were mis sold a financial product, that had little to no relevance to your vehicle and specifically did not meet your needs ?

I hope all goes well for you in small claims.
