This will be our sixteenth tour to Europe (either with or without the caravan) and the first time heading properly North in our van, Nellie. We need to leave in the next 7 to 10 days as we have a ferry to catch in Kirkenes on 30th June. This is presently our only deadline.

Travel either through the Eurotunnel or overnight Harwich to the Hook-of-Holland. Costs look similar when you add in the additional mileage of going via the tunnel. We will spend a few nights near Copenhagen before heading north through Sweden and Finland.

Hoping for some slightly longer stops en-route - maybe a 3 night stop half way up Sweden and another also as we cross Finland - if anyone has any suggestions, fire away...

MOT and Service completed early - ✅
Red Pennant annual policy expires August (and then it is no more...) - ✅
GHIC cards renewed - ✅
FLT Pass delivered - ✅
Ferry pass - ❌
Cash for Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark - ❌
Aferiy P280 Powerbank delivered and connected to Victron MPPT controller - ✅
SearchforSites subscription active - ✅
Park4Night subscription active - ❌
ACSI subscription active - ❌

In early May I ordered a FLYT pass from www.flytpass.no and this arrived with a week or two. I still haven't figured out how it works but I appear to have selected the option which costs 5NOK per month (I will cancel after the trip) but I can't see how I pay. I'm assuming they must eventually send me a bill.

I also want a prepaid ferry pass from www.autopassferje.no but they don't allow registration from a UK phone number. Awaiting a response from their CS team.

Normally we would sleep in the pop-top but have no idea how practical this will be once we start heading up through Sweden and Finland.

This will dictate if we take our small drive-away awning or not.

It won't see much if any use on the outward journey but it's likely we will stay a week or two in several places in southern Norway on the way back. Decisions, decisions...

We’re doing Sweden and Finland in August / September, so we will also be watching your progress avidly. Looking forward to learning from you.

Did you do a similar trip in Wolfy or am I confusing you with someone else?
We are off to Lofoten in August. Like @acer and @mrsacer, I will be watching your progress, particularly on fuel availability.

No first time in Scandinavia and Nellie is out first Campervan.

Are you booking sites on Lofoten in August?

Haven’t taken the Campervan to Norway & Nordkapp, but did do both on a motorbike. For me the scenery in Northern Finland & Sweden can be quite boring compared to Norway, long days of endless trees.

And my most important advice for Nordkapp is leave as much time as possible up there, the weather can be challenging even in summer. We had almost 48 hours there in July, with only 2 hours clear skies, the rest of the time cold, grey & windy. Thankfully it came good on the Sunday night and we got the “midnight sun” shot.

Sounds like a great trip! I'm hoping for a few pictures along the way so that we can enjoy it with you.

The Finnmark region in northernmost Norway is a very special place. You probably won't be back there anytime soon, so I would take some time to roam around the peninsulas in the Barents Sea also on land.
I really liked the national scenic routes to Vardø/Hamningberg and to Havøysund. The Nordkinn peninsula may be my personal favourite: just magical in its desolation.

The Varanger scenic route is not far from Kirkenes and would not add too much distance to your route.

I have not driven through the Nordic countries but have been a few times to Norway - and have a friend that visits family every 2 weeks in Sweden:

These are all cashless countries.
Grab a revolut/monzo

Not quit correct. On one of my trips, stopped for fuel. Next fuel stop a good distance away. Que of vehicles. Garage happy to dispense fuel.but Cash only as computer system down. I got my fuel others had to wait overnight .

Sorry, mistaken identity!
We have booked an Airbnb in Lofoten with washing machine and tumble dryer!!!
We are not wild campers so found it harder to find decent sites the further north and cheated. We are camping the whole of the remaining time.
However, there are sites in the north and there seems to be a much more relaxed feel with the site owners. Let's see!

Finally booked a crossing on Sunday from Harwich to the Hook of Holland following in the footsteps of other forum members. @WelshGas and others - your previous visits have helped inspire us and plan a route.... We are disappointed though that overnight parking at Nordkapp is now forbidden. Given the time of year I'm expecting everywhere will be rammed with large motorhomes.

Er, that might have been me…….

Hi, great Blog and you cost me money. However, the Omnia scones are a wow on a campsite ;)
Looking forward to our own adventure later in the year!

Well officially underway. Stena Hollandica just set sail.

Departed East Devon almost at high noon and covered the 265 miles in just over six hours with two short breaks.

An uninspiring and uneventful journey along the A303, M3, M25 and A12

Currently aboard the Stena Hollandica which is enormous. One of the largest RoRo ferries in the world. Nice cabin with double bed and single bunk.IMG20260607180601.jpgScreenshot_2026-06-07-22-44-30-36_3d9111e2d3171bf4882369f490c087b4.jpg
