Engine bay query. Random unconnected pipe

Would anyone be able to shed any light as to what this pipe should connect into?

2008 California SE, 2.5 Tdi 174 bhp.

Here’s my personal take.

The pipe disconnected is definitely a brake line. You can tell by the nut at the end of it.
Also there appears to be a kunifer/copper line on the right side of the abs unit. This is not a vw part and it is widely acceptably used to replace a damaged or corroded line.

If I’d be a betting man I’d say it had a new brake line fitted however someone’s been too lazy to remove the old one?

Follow the copper line and see where it takes you

Agree. It does seem odd that whoever fitted the new line had enough space to do so yet not enough to pull out the old one!

As long as the middle pedal does its thing then all is good.

I’d remove the old line nevertheless. It serves no purpose, deadweight and doesn’t inspire confidence when it comes to sell.
