DSG Glitch?

I have owned a 2019 T6 California Ocean 4Motion 199HP since April 2025. Purchased with 24k mileage, full VW service history etc. Lovely vehicle and have driven, trouble-free, approximately 4k since purchase.

Driving from Ambleside to CAMC Bolton Abbey last month, I accelerated after passing though a 30 MPH village and the van suddenly lost drive, like the gearbox had gone into neutral, with subsequent over-revving of engine. I pulled into a layby, switched off the engine, restarted and continued to the campsite with no further issues.

With a 230 mile drive back south to home a few days later, I thought it might be useful to try and get the van checked for fault codes, just in case there was an issue with the DSG gearbox. The following day I contacted three local VW van centres who couldn't fit me in at such short notice - fair enough. The campsite manager suggested contacting local VW/Audi specialists Aire Valley Workshop in Skipton, who may be able to assist. They asked me to bring the van down straight away and they would check for fault codes. A big shout-out to Aire Valley Workshop for responding so quickly!

Aire Valley's scan showed no fault codes associated with the DSG gearbox and they also did a full system scan just in case - no errors produced either. AV's mechanic did think it a little strange that an event like the gearbox suddenly dropping onto neutral hadn't been flagged with an error code.

So, maybe just a DSG glitch?

Following some research on Google I did do a DSG reset (ignition on and throttle to the floor for 1 minute) before I left the campsite. I had no further issues on the journey home, which was mostly motorway/cruise control/7th gear.

Can anyone offer some explanation as to what may have possibly caused this issue?

Many thanks!

I seem to recall reading here about a common issues with the selector switch at the base of the gear lever?
I may have imagined it?

Try a search or hang around until others confirm.

I've not seen/heard of this as a symptom of the selector switch, but equally doesn't mean it isn't that!

Sister had a problem in her Audi years ago with the box....I thought it fixed but Google "mechatronic DSG ".....I have 93k on mine and zero issues apart from a rusty dsg sump

That actually sounds very much like selector issue - if the selector commanded N, the gearbox did exactly what it was asked for and that would explain no error codes. It would also be accompanied with N on the dashboard.

The only selector issue I had with a 2023 4M Ocean was the selector switch not seeing I was in Park.

I must admit to not checking the gear position display on the dashboard following the loss of drive. This would perfectly explain the reason for no error codes.
Many thanks.
