Hello All,

Swiss based Brit, heading back to the Homeland for a few days who'd like to pick your brains on the following.

When I used to drive from Zurich to Essex I could do it in one hit. Now my mother has moved up to North West Leeds and it's a bit too far to do in one go. Before I used to drive with my Estate and could hit Essex still on good form, but now I have my T6.1 I have the advantage of Adaptive Cruise control and somewhere I can get 5-6 hours of kip when I'm too tired to continue.
There's no way I'm comfortable trying to get to Leeds in one go, that's just too far, I'll be leaving Zurich 5 or before, ideally I would like to get above London/M25, rest up for the night and then continue early the next morning up to Leeds.

What's the situation with spending 4-5 hours in a services, or quiet layby in the UK? In Switzerland this is a big no no and there are few places apart from campsites where you could parkup and sleep the night.

Is the app park4night accurate in the UK, any other recommendations?

Second question, although primarily there to keep an eye on my mother (she's just coming out of hospital after an operation), I'd like to take my two young nephews out for a nights camping with the Van.

Any recommendations for a campsite in the South of the Yorkshire downs where the boys could get a good experience of being out in the country?

Thank you in advance for any useful information.

Cheers,
Simon

Service stations, many allow a couple of hours stay only.
Park4Night is fairly accurate in uk, if you read between the lines in the reviews. SearchForSites app also good.

Campsites North West of Leeds, South Yorkshire Dales.

Masons at Appletreewick is nice, good location, if a little overpriced.

Catgill Farm near Bolton Abbey also good.

Both would be good for children. some of the camping club sites nearby are a bit more caravan and tv type places.

Thanks Willwander, both look very nice....Definitely looks like I'm taking the driving option rather than flying ;)

I'll justify this to myself by bring back lots of UK Tea and Goodies ;)

Many thanks.
Simon.

Download Searchforsites.....7 day free trial, but the annual cost is not a lot....

Depending on the age of your boys, Hesketh Farm Park is a very short walk across the road from Catgill Farm.

And the ruins of the priory at Bolton Abbey are only about a 20 minute walk away on quiet roads.

+1 for Catgill

Walk down to Bolton abbey and river/stepping stones, farm opposite (though more for young kids), call in at billy bobs parlour. Lots of good walks nearby too.
