Dimmable Step illumination on MY2025 GC600/680

I understood that the step illumination on the GC600/680 is not dimmable, and that it’s blindingly bright. However, when visiting Camper Jam over the weekend, I tried to dim the led step light and it did actually dim. Is this new for the 2025 uodate?

Oh, and ‘California Chris’, who was on the stand, seemed to think they have always dimmed, so I’m baffled.

I’m waiting for delivery of a new GC600 and was thinking about purchasing an in-line dimming kit from Germany but now looks like I don’t need to.

Hi Daniel, is the step illumination light that you refer to the light under the awning, or is it a light on the step itself? I paid for the optional extra of a step illumination light on my 2025 GC680, thinking it was an additional light on the step; however, the only light fitted is the strip light under the awning. A further question: how did you dim the light?

Hi. I’m referring to the LED strip underneath the awning. This is what VW refers to as the Step Illumination option. The LED can be dimmed by prolonged press of the switch (as per all other internal lights).

The step illumination option is for a light in drivers footwell step! Not the under awning light.
I and many others did not select the “step illumination” option and yet we all have led light strip under the awning.
So the step illumination isn’t really a worthwhile option

Interesting. Especially that the dealerships don’t know that.

Regardless, my OP was specifically talking about the dimming capability of the LED strip under the awning.

Maybe you can tell us whether yours is dimmable?

Hi, yes our awning led strip light is dimmable on our 2023 GC, press and hold button above fridge to make it dim or brighten
