Hi Guys, I wonder if anyone experienced the same issue. I would be grateful for any advice

My pop up canvas is damaged at bottm of stitched rubber seal (next to Al rail ). This damage is on front of canvas only. It is 12 cm longer and getting worse, everytime I use the pop up roof
.
Any ideas how to repair it; without spending a fortune on a new canvas? I was thinking of an adhesive tape as stitching may not work as stitching holes are no more..

Thanks in advance for any tips/pointers.

Has the canvas actually torn or is it simply a case of the thread coming undone?

If it’s the latter then just release the seal from the groove and re stitch it?

As above as it looks like the stitching has broken.
Tape will cover the whole but the hole will keep widening due to the tension.
You need to lower the roof halfway. Tease out the rubber seal. It is just a push fit.
Use a canvas thread and non-cutting needle. Need a thimble as well.
Place a locking stich 1cm from each end of the hole to stop the stitching pulling out even more. The resew the whole length from locking stich to locking stich.
Re-insert seal.

You can see the thread has broken

The rubber seems torn; sewing it back on seems difficult.

Thanks Guys for coming up with the ideas. Appreciated.

The rubber is torn, confimred, sewing it back on sadly is not going to be possible. I presume the rubber cannot be replaced easily without buying new canvas (I am dreading it.. cost).

Thanks for trying to help, cheers, Wiesiek

I still think you could try and resew the canvas onto the seal below the tear. Afterall what have you got to lose compared to replacing the canvas bellows .

As per @WelshGas : Nothing to lose by trying a repair before buying a new set of bellows.

I would certainly have a go at stitching it back, securing to the rubber with some loop stitching into the rubber below the tear. Take care not to put too much tension on the stitching/fabric/rubber around the torn area, as it will just increase the force on the damaged area when the roof is fully raised.
I'd also get some stormsure or similar adhesive into the joint area to try and get an adhesive bond to supplement the stitching.

I had the same problem on my 2009 T5 in two places… 1 about 12cm and the other 10cm I used a rubber to canvas glue and it’s been fine for a year now…

I would definitely try contacting Richard at kernow.conversions@.com. Our canvas needed replacing two years ago and he had a small supply of T6 canvasses. About £400 supply and fitting (but you’d have to have a trip to Penzance as that’s where he is).

We had similar problems on our 2019 t6.On both front corners the rubber started to split. Contacted a few different companies and they all said the same replacement bellows. After a few quotes went with VW Breeze Portsmouth as they were only about £120 more than other quotes and gave us a 2 year warranty for parts and fitting. Not cheap £1728 incl vat.

Thank you Fegers, Timo and Kev T6. All v valuable info. Wiesiek. I will try rubber to canvas glue first.
