Broken glass to side panel lounge area

Unfortunately, my California 6.1 74 plate has suffered broken glass to the porthole window and adjoining fixed side widow due to a stone impact. I am rather gutted but at least there is no damage to the paintwork. My insurance company, Comfort Insurance, have sent me off to Auto Windscreens in Portsmouth. I suspect that I will not receive replacement glass from VW. Any advice from the Forum as to things I should watch out for? I am already trying to avoid stones...Thanks. J.

At least for the windscreen Comfort insurance (or actually the underwriter) allow you to use a repairer of your choice and claim the cost back - up to £3k iirc. I imagine it would be the same for other glass in the vehicle but check the policy wording. I had to use this to get an oem windscreen fitted, although the preferred partner refused (also auto glass) the under writer just said go to another provider and they would approve. Auto glass were really poor tbh, they couldn’t or wouldn’t get round the computer says no despite the under writer and Comfort saying otherwise. I would go elsewhere and insist on oem replacement.
