Another Surk Key Question - Alarm Delay

I know - It's been asked before. And I have read all i can find. Like many, I am frustrated that there is not a way to use a simple 'surk key' to access the van without setting off the alarm immediately. Yes, I can hide the real key inside and spend a few seconds finding it in a panic, but it's a bit antisocial.

I see eslewhere that the regular T6 Van has a 15 second delay on door opening, but the Cali does not. So my thinking is that this can be changed. Google AI suggests it can, but it also tells me a lot of untruths! Has anyone sucessfully carried out this coding mod?

On a standard commercial T6 panel van or Kombi, the 15-second grace period is standard factory behavior to prevent false alarms during work site use. Conversely, on a California, Volkswagen configures the module to trigger instantly for maximum security when camping or sleeping.
You can reprogram this behavior using diagnostic software like VCDS or OBDEleven. [1, 2]

The Exact Adaptation Channel
To change this, you must change how the Anti-Theft Alarm (ATA) interprets the manual door unlocking sequence. In the software, this specific parameter is called the Delay Alarm Activation. [1]
If you connect OBDEleven or VCDS, follow this exact path:

  1. Select Control Module 09 (Central Electrics).
  2. Open Adaptations.
  3. Look for the channel named Anti-Theft Alarm (or search for DWA or Diebstahlwarnanlage).
  4. Find the parameter labeled Delay Alarm Activation (or Verzoegerung Diebstahlwarnanlage). [1, 2, 3]

The Secret 3rd Software Option
The adaptation channel offers three specific parameters, rather than two:

  • Door Lock (Standard California Setup): Triggers the alarm immediately the moment the mechanical key barrel turns.
  • Door Open: Triggers the alarm immediately when the door hook releases and the door physically opens.
  • With Delay (Standard Transporter Setup): This provides the missing functionality. Changing the setting to With Delay forces the system to wait exactly 15 seconds after opening the door before activating the siren. This delay window allows you to insert the key into the ignition to confirm the transponder chip
