Another Parking Heater Discussion (sorry!)

I've read a few discussions on this point but there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer and I was hoping that someone might be able to confirm on their T7. For the base spec beach the brochure says "Fuel-fired parking heater and fuel-powered auxiliary heater" - I read that as 100% as it having a diesel heater (I'm looking at the diesel version) which runs continuously when parked (hence parking heater right?). I've seen the other optional extras but they seem to relate more to remote control of the heater but if anyone could confirm the exact situation (which I think applies to all models as I didn't see the other options being standard on coach or ocean) it would be most appreciated!

I have a T7 Beach with none of the optional extras relating to heating, and can confirm it does come with a diesel parking heater.

Believe the options do indeed relate to being able to control the heater(s) via remote control

That's very helpful to know, thanks Aldoi! Does it have the ability to be set to run all night do you know or does it have some sort of countdown once you turn it on and is limited?

A similar Q came up on another thread. I’ll try to find some time one eve this week to play around and show the different options

Was out with the Cali this weekend and was cold enough to warrant having a good play around with the heater!

There are 3 options for the heater; one where it runs ‘continuously’ and the others running on a timer up to 2 hours / 120 mins - either immediately or to run at a scheduled start time. The screenshots below from the California app explain this pretty well and I’ve taken some pics of the options on the central control unit also.

Hot air is pumped out of the bottom vent on the floor next to the rear passenger seat only. It comes on and off intermittently, presumably when it reaches the desired temperature, or drops below a threshold - the same as how a thermostat works for central heating.

I did some reading on this to try to understanding which trim (Beach, Coast & Ocean) provide which heating options, and how the options differ. It is further complicated by the additional options which come with the PHEV (EV) engines, and that the upgrade heating options are combined with remote parking and windscreen heating. I don’t think the VW specification lists are conclusive either, so there is an element of guesswork. Hopefully what I have written below helps, and I apologise for any unintended inaccuracies.

In the ‘Beach’ Diesel (there is no petrol version in this trim), you get the ‘Camper heater for continuous operation and fuel-fired auxiliary heater’.

The ‘Beach’ EV trim drops the ‘fuel-fired auxiliary heating’, wording at the end of the ‘continuous heating’ phrase, perhaps suggesting that this feature is powered by one of the batteries, even the EV battery? The ‘Beach’ EV doesn’t have ‘parking heater and window heater’ as an option, nor listed as standard, so I assume this isn’t included or available, alternatively, all EVs have this feature as standard.

The ‘Coast’ diesel engine again has ‘fuel-fired auxiliary heating’, and again the EV doesn’t. The petrol engine doesn’t have this either, but I think it’s an omission. One reason is that both diesel and petrol have an £1,800 option for ‘Camper parking heater for continuous operation and parking heater for windscreen de-icing with radio control’. This suggests that this upgrade adds a battery which not only powers parking heater and window defrost (with a remote feature too), but also powers the continuous camping heater. Back to the omission to mention the ‘fuel-fired heating’ for the ‘Ocean’ Petrol - if you don’t add the £1,800 option, there has to something to provide heating when camping.

The EV engine on the ‘Coast’ again drops the ‘fuel-fired’ element, but unlike the Beach, has a heated windscreen as standard, but unlike the P&D of this trim, doesn’t mention any remote capability, but I suspect that it’s included.

The ‘Ocean’ trim for all engines includes the ‘parking and camping heating (no mention of the ‘fuel fired’) with heated windows and remote control’.

So what does the Ocean EV get that the Coast EV doesn’t as the ‘non full-fired heating’ and AC are the same on both, and what is the cost delta?

When you add as many of the additional options that you can to the ‘Coast’, e.g. heated seats, navigation etc, the cost delta is £3.5k. What you get in the ‘Ocean’ that you cannot get in the ‘Coast’ is: 18” wheels (and option to get 19”), improved seat materials and trim, wood-effect flooring and cabinet finishes, interior ambient lighting, IQ LED matrix exterior lighting, airline-style overhead storage, and heated steering wheel.

Hopefully this helps……
