Hello Cali owners,

I am a recent owner of a 2005 California camper. I am experiencing these issues with the Air Conditioner (AC)
  • The AC doesn't effectively cool the vehicle
  • I don't understand the ideal way to use the dash controls (see picture).
  • I don't know what the function button on the far left in picture is supposed to do
  • The dash vents don't blow air evenly or with sufficient volume, though the fan is on highest level
The refrigerant level for AC is full. I was told to check the compressor clutch. The manual I have does not sufficiently explain.

Could someone explain how to operate the AC on my California Comfortline - 2005 - T5 platform?
Does any have the Booklet they could share called "Controls and Equipment", with section called "Heating and air conditioning system," for my vehicle?

Thanks for advice owners can provide.

Tony

With the greatest respect, judging by the state of the panel I wouldn’t hold out much hope for the rest of the system!

First things first.
For the AC to run, the cooling fans under the bonnet must run.
Turn the AC on full, lift the bonnet and make sure the fans are running on low speed.

If not then it’s likely the speed control resistor has failed. This could be an easy fix depending on whether they’re internal to the fans or external.

Another thing to check is the compressor clutch.
I can’t recall the exact control sequence with fans etc.
Locate the compressor. Start the engine with AC off.
Look at the drive pulley of the compressor. The centre section should be stationary.
Switch on the AC and check the compressor again. The centre section should now be spinning. If so, the clutch is fine.

So if you have fans and clutch then it’s a gas issue. Probably a failed condenser.

Sort these things out before anything else.
