My van's lacquer is peeling - see pics.

I have been quoted just under £1000 to sort it out. Good company, used them before but this is just too much.

I am considering doing it myself. I have downloaded how to do it etc.

First problem is, how to identify the colour. See attached info, is there a code herewith?

Many thanks in advance.

—the paint code is LA5K, visible top of section 4, ….on the line reading LA5K 0000 0000 RL. It corresponds to Olympian Blue, also called Olympic Blue Metallic or Olympiablau.

Use VW LA5K as the matching reference.

  • Do you know the history of the van? Poor adhesion after a previous respray: can cause layers to separate.

Excellent, thank you very much.

I believe we are the second owners, bought it about eight years ago and we have put about 80,000 miles on the clock. No prangs I aware of.

Someone suggested wrapping as opposed to painting.

That may be an option.

Check with Insurance before wrapping. Some companies will refuse cover.

Must be the colour.
My front bumper is peeling like a champ.

Wrapping is no good, I asked about this and it would should the difference in layers.

£1k sounds high to me. Had my front done (same colour!) for £400. Happy to share details if you’re SE based.
