Insurance no claim bonus after owning camper

A couple of weeks ago I sadly sold my 09 California SE,, 2,5 l and bought a small car with almost half the horse power.

Since owning my camper in 2018, it was insured with Comfort Insurance and I had an NCB OF 15 years on the renewal note.

Comfort could only find an eye watering quote for my wee car for which they apologised, explaining it was not really their thing and perhaps I should try elsewhere. I found a reasonable quote elsewhere and insured. The new company emailed me today saying they could not accept my NCB as it was for a van and I could pay a whack more.

Has anyone else encountered this problem or can offer a solution?

It may have been a "van" but classified as M1 passenger vehicle, not a goods vehicle (van) . Insurers can't have it both ways?
I would explain that it was classified as a passenger vehicle not a goods van

I've had the same problem. It's a right pain. Fortunately, having a big no claims (or non) doesn't make the huge difference I thought it would.
It's a few years back but if I remember, when going from Car to Cali they were willing to mirror my NCB, but no similar schemes seemed to go the other way.

Thank you for your replies and helpful information.
With that I have contacted the insurers again pointing out that the Cali is not a van. The increased sum they are requesting is around 40% and I am reluctant to lose my NCB. Let’s hope.

When we changed from Comfort they provided us with a letter saying ' NCD Entitlement 65%, Claim Free Years 10. It did say the vehicle was a VW California.

After no response from insurer on NCB and in order to quit within the 14 day cooling off period, I did so today with difficulty.
Adrian Flux were able to insure me elsewhere and keep my NCB. It was a bit more expensive but worth it for the good customer service.

Thanks for your helpful advice.
