Hello my first post with a query
The insurance company want me to install their provided Tracker nano . It’s self powered and about the size of a box of matches black .
It says it needs to be mounted flat with GPS facing upwards . Says avoid obvious places like glove compartment
I’ve had a look at the ‘flat’ areas in the van but to me they all look obvious such as under rear seat at back of draw, inside a cupboard on a shelf etc . Has anyone got any other stealth locations that I can’t think of they can recommend ??

Its not really stealth if its published on forum like this.

The better you hide it, the more damage will be done to your van by anyone looking for it.

You need to think laterally, fix it to the underside of something.....

Under roof mattress. Means the scrotts will need to raise roof to get to it, and for that they will need the key.
Funnily enough I was just thinking exactly that as an idea if I can get it under the individual springs up top . Thanks

If the Insurance Company are insisting you install THEIR tracker, I'd be telling them to come and install themselves... or looking for anther Insurance Company.

You need to consider GPS signal reception & mobile / radio, facing upwards and line of sight to sky with no to little metal contents in that path (rules out under roof) - professional thefts know likely places because the device having to have signals means under the dash board and other areas like that are the only ones that really work. Battery powered devices make it much harder to for them to identify tell tale signs of trackers like a number of random black wires added in, the harder you make it to fit the harder you will make it to find. Remember they largely don't care about damage or ripping off stuff, but they are time bound and also need to know that one is fitted.

Thanks for all the replies I’ve sorted it now . The new ones are very small and the signal is working according to tracker so it goes through metal ok . Dead easy to fix . I won’t tell anyone where in case you feel the urge to ‘track’ ( pardon the pun) me down

Actually a GPS tracker can work under the roof especially if located around the periphery of the roof as the roof , although an aluminium alloy, does not surround the tracker to make a Faraday cage. Many trackers do not only use a GPS signal but also mobile phone signals and mobile mast triangulation.

Personal choice, but putting GPS & Mobile tracker under metal is just a bad idea, it might happen to work with low signal strength through leakage around seals, but at the end of the day all you are doing is massively reducing the effectiveness of a device that is meant to help recover your car.

I've been using these for years in over 20 vehicles. Never had any issues wherever I put them. Definitely wasn't line of sight and metal was certainly in the way.
