The Calibed Prestige is a game changer for downstairs. I recently replaced my VW Comfort mattress with one, which I was glad to see the back of. I'm sure the Brandrup equivalent is equally comfortable.

My (new to me) vehicle is coming without lower mattress, so I'm in market for one.

Lots of chat on this forum about options and digested a lot, but think my options pretty much come down to the two mentioned in this thread.

I would be interested in feedback to whether there is much difference between the Calibed and iXtend.

Not sure if sleeping style makes a difference, but I'm a side sleeper.
We often end up with our young kids in bed with us so possible roll to compressed areas could be a factor.

2021 T6.1 Beach Tour, 3 seat bench.

I doubt there is much difference assuming both offer sizing for a wider 3 seat Beach bench. Both have a multilayer foam insert. I'm a side sleeper and have had no issues with the Calibed Prestige. 2 :thumb:thumb

Then you will have the same seat as a Caravelle, very comfortable for sitting in, nicely profiled for your backside , but not flat like in the 2 seat models such as Cali 0, C and two seat beach.

You will need a profiled mattress to take out the seat undulations that are apparent with the seat is in bed mode. The factory mattress is various thicknesses and profiled at the edges to account for the seat not being flat.

DYOR regarding 3 seat mattresses. The ones referenced in Ocean, Coast and 2 seat beach threads are irrelevant to your situation and comfort and could be misleading and a costly mistake

Indeed, the two on my list are Beach versions:

Brandrup : https://vwcaliforniaclub.com/shop/p...ress-vw-t5-t6-california-beach-titanium-black

Calidbed : https://www.volkswagenshop.be/nl/2-...atras-voor-benedenbed-t5t6t6-1-met-3-zitsbank

Are these appropriate / best options for the Beach Tour / Caravelle seating?

Exactly. Although the Calibed option is sold out and the Brandrup is eyewateringly expensive. I would seriously consider the Comfortz option. 2" think memory foam like the 2 more expensive options and half the price.

Our new Cali was eyewateringly expensive. So paying the eyewateringly price for Brandrup mattresses seemed sensible if it meant geting a good night's sleep. We use TWO, one on top of the other. One bought new and one secondhand half price. One with a fitted sheet. Yes they take up a lot of space, but we get a great night's sleep. We move on most nights and find the Z folding easy. Great quality. We've used ours for 370 nights and no sign of deterioration. Recommend!

They are eye watering for sure, and although I’d love to go thinner/cheaper, a good nights sleep is important - I’m getting creaky as I get older.

That said, I am considering the comfortZ and if it isn’t enough for longer trips then complementing with a cheap inflatable like the decathlon ‘air basic double’ underneath which could be made a hard base to bridge the bumps.

Two, oh wow!

Now you’ve got me rethinking my whole strategy, darn it! :)

Though I just don’t think we have the room for this method, there are four of us to carry kits for… maybe when the kids leave home in a decade or so we’ll replace them with an extra mattress. ;)

There are only the two of us, so not a problem. Yes with four up it probably would be. We also use a 'super' king size duvet, but as it is down, it rolls up quite small. This has to be done daily, then packed into an IKEA bag with two puffy pillows. We like our night time Comfort!

I bought the Calibed for downstairs as recommended here and I never looked back!

Even my wife ( a VERY critical sleeper) sometimes considers a night in the van, even while being at home :)

I recently got the Brandrup one. It’s quite good and very easy to store but I have to say it’s nowhere near as comfy as the sea to summit SIM in my opinion. So I’m keeping both for now and will take a view each trip whether comfort or convenience is more important!

I am not too happy with the Brandrup, a bit too hard for me... a side sleeper. Good I kept the OEM one and consider going back.

I’d be interested in buying either off you (assuming it’s a t6/6.1 beach version)… ;)

Heading to the NEC Motorhome show middle of October, planing to invest in one after that - assuming a good secondhand deal doesn’t present before then.

He's got a Coast. Won't work in a Beach

Which one did you buy ?
I'm quite happy with my Easy Camp sim for upstairs, but there's always room for improvement. If the Sea to Summit sim is even better then the Brandrup one, maybe I can find one for upstairs that's better then the Easy Camp.

I’ve had the sea to summit deluxe campervan shaped one for a few years - everyone’s different but I find this like sleeping on a cloud! They have a lifetime guarantee aswell.

Ok, I see: that one is for downstairs. I'm interested in upstairs :)

I have a Sea to Summit Deluxe Campervan too, for an Ocean it works for either bed location. I store it in the upper bed deflated (having removed the VW supplies mattress which you don’t then need). But then we only ever use one of the two beds at any time.
