How/where to store a Disklok ?

The title says it all: how and where to keep a Disklok in a California (T6.1) so it's easy to reach for when parking, but not in the way and not loose somewhere in the back ? I don't want it to fly in my neck in an accident ...

I thought about some holder between the seats ? Any ideas ?

Where do you carry the key for the Disklock? I bet the majority of owners have it on their key ring.
As the vehicle can only be stolen and driven away with the key + Immobiliser Fob then if the keys are stolen then the thief has both the vehicle key, Immobiliser fob and Disklock key in their hands.

Keep the keys safe, keep the vehicle safe.

The California is one of the least stolen vehicles on the planet.

Yes thats me key on keyring but I dont bother with it now 5 years down the line, however, good point as never looked at it that way just assumed they could break in & start it without the key - sorry girl logic!!

Going back to original question,I’ve got a disc lock bag & just store it in the drawer under bed…
Agreed they are cumbersome and know it’s only a deterrent when all said & done but when we leave the van parked up to go walking for the day it gives me a bit more peace of mind…

Lodged somewhere near the seat could become tragically unlodged in an accident. I don't think there is any easily accessible location for a Disklok that is also safe; the closest IMO is the cupboard or underbench drawer.

I have a bearlock, which satisfies your basic criteria (except possibly cost). I carry the key separate from the vehicle key.

I also try to/would use it as a deterrent, but since it's so cumbersome, I often don't take it with me. If it were easily reachable, otoh, I would often use it. On and of goes in seconds indeed.

Good point about the key: keeping it separate from the fob is a better idea.

Deterrent for what?

No-one is wandering around like the 80’s shoving screwdrivers into locks to start cars and drive them away. No-one. So what are we/you deterring?

Same as a bear lock, it’s a very clever solution for something that is not a problem. Not that you can see that from the site - the marketing would have you believe every other car on the street is stolen.

Are we assuming someone will see a Cali, look over their shoulder, smash the window and then try and steal it? And if there is a steering lock they won’t? Literally does not and has never happened.

If anyone is doing that they are looking for something inside to steal and sell for drugs, in which case any sort of anti-driving mechanism is pointless and ignored.

The same as it is pointless without the key. I have said before, there are two ways to steal a Cali. With the key or with a low loader. If they are doing the latter, the steering lock is irrelevant.

They are not doing that. I did some analysis a few years ago on DVLA data and worked out 9 Cali’s were stolen in a year. I’d imagine it’s even less now. And they were old ones, probably with the key taken from the house.

Without a key it is literally impossible to drive away a Cali. See my reply to OP’s other post about the key being passive.

So to answer the OP and the original Q - Store it in the garage in it’s box, or better still, leave it on the shelf in a shop.

I remain open to owners having peace of mind, but don’t mistake that for actual security.

Note 1 - Most Cali owners are older and it is, after a house, the most expensive thing they ever bought - I get peace of mind and the fear that creates and I get that they still have joyrides and ram raids on their minds hence why they think covering it in tinfoil will protect it....

Note 2 - This is for a 6.1. if you have a keyless Van, take relevant advice and secure additionally. I’m not sure what the T7 security is.

Edit - I have found a sheet of UK thefts from Jan 23 - Jan 24 by model. A single 61 plate Cali was stolen in June 2023, and recovered.
