Anyway made it to Lac d’Orient okay, this campsite has a great out of hours check in facility so the tunnel delay wasn’t the end of the world

so for anyone that might be interested, here are some updates on the rest of the trip, unfortunately i couldn't post pics over there, i think its coz the iphone now takes such large photos the forum can't handle them!

After 2 nights at Lac d'Orient we headed down to Chamonix to try and stay at Camping de la Mer de Glace, i'd scoped this campsite out the previous year as you can't pre-book so it was a gamble they would have pitches, luckily they did so all good, Its a lovely little site, great views, super clean and in the summer they have different food trucks every night, an added bonus us they give you free passes to use the train around the local area for the duration of the stay, so we heading into Chamonix town center a couple of times. We would definitely go back.

We also did a trip on the Aiguille du Midi cable car, expensive, but worth it

next the trip down to Lake Garda, decided to skip the Mont Blanc tunnel an go with ChatGPT's recommendation for the Grand St Bernard Pass which was good fun, even found some snow for the kids to play in

If your way back goes through the Val d'Aosta, there are some nice camp sites like Hobo camping in Val Veny, which is basically Courmayeur just at the foot of the Mont Blanc Tunnel. You could also look into the Petit Saint Bernard pass to avoid the MBT.

and on to Lake Garda, all i can say is WOW! what a place, and Camping Fornella is without doubt the best campsite we've ever stayed at, right on the lake, private beaches, excellent (and reasonably priced) restaurant on site, amazing facilities (2 pools, one heated), SPA, Gellato, lovely supermarket, watersport/boat rentals, tennis court, kids club, parks, everything was spotless, incredible! 100% coming back next year. We paid for a pitch with private bathroom / ensuite which was fantastic, if a bit on the pricey side, however having seen the communal facilities I'm not sure I'd pay the extra next year.

We went with out major setup of the Kampa Touring Awning with extension on the front, glad we did as one night at thunderstorm rolled in and the wind reallyh got up, without the extension the front of the Kampa is basically a wind tunnel!

And for the journey home after 7 nights in Italy we headed to Lake Constance on the German side, or the Bodensee as they call it, I really wanted to do Stelvio but Chat GPT advised against it due to how busy it gets so we did the San Bernardeno Pass instead and it was virtually empty apart from at the little cafe at the top
