Has anyone travelled to southern Czechia? - new area for us! Looking to plan a trip to Brno. Has anyone any thoughts, ideas, routes, areas to stay/avoid etc? Planning the route to take in the Tunnel, Belgium, Germany with possible first stopover Dortmund area and then into Czechia.

Nope, but will await photos and how the trip pans out.

Hi, any particular reason for Brno ? I've been a few times as I own a business nearby and have met investors and lawyers there. It's a nice enough city, in parts, but I wouldn't say it's a must see. I do like the area of South Moravia to the south towards the Austrian border, famous-ish for its wine, and with a few picturesque castles and follies, but not exactly exhilirating scenery. I usually fly into Vienna when its work, but I have driven quite a bit round Czech and Austria and Germany.

Assuming there's a particular reason to go there, and the journey is supposed to be part of the holiday and you've got some days spare, then I'd probably take a more southerly route:
- down the Rhine valley south of Koblenz, then to the Technik Museum at Sinsheim then across to Nuremberg, Plzen, Prague, Brno. Maybe half an hour longer; or
- even further south via Munich then Linz and Vienna and then up into Czech. About 2 hours longer.

Thanks for your replies guys.
Main reason was to fit in the MotoGP next year so not necessarily too fussed about Brno, just thought whilst we were there...must see and all. Know the German routes reasonably well having travelled extensively in the country and in fact just returned from Salzburg and barring the Munich traffic was a pleasant journey. However, my thoughts originally were to travel south through Czech having not touched the eastern side of Europe, but maybe I just do the MotoGP weekend using the route ~@Beach Hut and look at the just 2/3 night stopover ~@Victot_Tango_.

We were in Brno for a couple of days at the end of April. A good place to eat is attached in the imasge, great warm atmosphere with lots of locals, good food and service and reasonably priced.

Thanks, will have a look later..

Visited Brno couple of years ago. We wanted to take a tour of Vila Tugebdhat a fantastic Art Nouveau building worth a visit need to book.
We stayed at a campsite called Camping Hana. It is to the west of Brno on the river. A ferry takes you from near the site down into the lake at Brno. The city centre is a short bus journey away alternatively as in our case a short cycle ride as they take bikes on the ferry.
Wonderful way to visit a city and an interesting mediaeval city centre with castle etc.
If you’re stopping in Germany, Regensburg is worth a stop again camping outside the city and cycling in.
Enjoy your trip.
If you travelling through southern Czech do visit Cesky Krumlov a magical town with a stunning castle.

OK, I see where the circuit is to the west of Brno. You could go across southern Germany and hit both Hillsiders' suggestions, Regensburg and Cesky Krumlov.

Thanks all. Sort of thinking staying near Brno for the 3/4 days for the event and then maybe move on. Think I’ve found another source who has travelled frequently thro Czech so will catch up with him at some point and report back. Will look at Camping Hana as a potential stop…
Will update soon and again thanks again to all those for your input
