Under bonnet storage

slight change of topic: My 2026 T7 ocean has its battery somewhere other than the engine bay (I believe it’s under the passenger seat area) …. I’d love to know why VW chose to locate it there… I mean there’s room in the engine bay …. Mystified!!!

Not in the Hybrid there isn't. So one position for All 3 drivetrains.

I am inclined to agree, especially if I don't need to use the space. As you say, it seems there used to be more space by the battery

Under my bonnet (2021 6.1) the largest space is on the left (1st photo). The space by the battery seems very cramped (2nd photo). Is it safe to use the cavity on the in the 1st photo, which is about 30cm deep? Or would that be too hot? Is it safe to reduce the airflow around the battery by cramming stuff around it?

The T6 had a divider to separate the battery compartment from the fuel filter and coolant tank (see copy image highlighted and a battery cover).

The T6.1 doesn’t but these can be supplied from VW or LLL parts (at a price) or salvaged from a donor vehicle.
Much better storage compartment with the side divider and battery cover (near identical battery so OK to cover in a T6 but not in a T6.1?)
25m cable and jump leads fit OK in mine and no degradation in 7 years of storing them in this location.

Surely if you’re having to resort to using this as storage then you probably need to reassess just how much kit you’re hauling around?

I guess its fit and forget. Saves loading in one area and then moving them around when you load up for a trip all the time as you can guarantee to store it in the wrong place…or even take it out and forget it. One thing less to think about!!

I have an air compressor (permanently connected to the battery) and a collapsible funnel for oil top ups.

EHC kit goes in the tailgate storage where the chairs usually go. I don't use the supplied chairs and the weight helps close the tailgate.
