Awning retraction problem

I have sucessfully used the awning on my Cali Beach just a couple of times. The van is 4 years old but as good as new, Most recently the awning failed to fully retract into the holder. There is about a one inch gap remaining; the winding pole just won't budge the last piece and I'm afraid to force it. The van is drivable but I can hear whistling through the gap as I drive and I'm concerned about risk of water ingress and rust. Any tips?

Make sure it's wound back in straight - I've had this where the fabric wound slightly more to one side so the end cap bit wouldn't lift and clip back in normally. I wound it out a little and just gave the fabric a gentle few sideways tugs whilst winding back in to straighten it up
