Had my first puncture on Saturday night, luckily my 2023 6.1 Ocean has a spare wheel so no great problems there, however getting the punctured wheel off the hub was a drama, plenty of kicking, pushing and pulling eventually loosened it up enough to remove it but it was a bit touch and go as to whether it would come off for a while.

I decided to remedy this once I’d had the tyre repaired so took off each wheel individually and cleaned the rust build up from the hub face and centre with emery cloth then applied a very thin coating of Copperslip grease to the areas I’d cleaned the rust from as I don’t want to be fighting to get the wheel off if it ever happens again.

Hopefully a worthwhile couple of hours preventive maintenance.

Good job! You’re lucky having a spare!!

I have a new T7 Ocean, (4 weeks old) no spare wheel, one of the first things I did when I got the van home was to remove each wheel and apply ceramic paste to the facings. I then bought a 3 ton bottle jack, a ‘Slime Tyre Tackle’ puncture repair kit. And in the van I also keep a torque wrench and pliers to remove any offending nail or screw. I hope I never need to use any of these things, but I feel prepared.

I have the VW supplied repair inflator and 'gunk' 'solution' .... but really don't want to use that if I can help it!

We did the same thing when new. But the this reminds me to do it again - the vans 4 years old - no punctures to date, but you don’t know what nail lies around the next corner
