Hello
One of my factory LED headlights has been hit by something and the front plastic has broken.
It will probably fail it's upcoming MOT so needs replacing. I looked at how much a new OEM one would cost and ouch!
Then looked at some of the many aftermarket options however these only seem to be useful to upgrade from non LED lights. Does anyone know of an aftermarket solution that may work?
I have been looking on ebay for used OEM but they also appear to be damaged

Many thanks
Mark

I think the after market Led headlamps are not auto levelling in the same way the factory ones are.

Many of the after market ones appear to be partial Led Lamps, with dip beam being traditional build type, this may cause CAN bus issues with a factory ECU / BCM programmed for LED headlights from factory.

They probably would not support travel mode when abroad, which would make them illegal without the euro deflectors fitted to the front "glass" (plastic)

Many require an additional loom to convert standard headlight to LED (retrofit) but it's not clear from any of the sellers if you can simply use an aftermarket Lamp to directly replace the factory LED. (To prevent can bus issues presumably)

A call to some of the suppliers should clear up the issue of compatibility.

I have contacted a couple of the aftermarket ones and they say they are only compatible upgrading from halogen lights. I may just need to keep an eye on eBay for a suitable replacement

Hi - Did not consider this but due to having another car and a motorbike the increase in over all premiums would not be worth it as well as having to take the excess into account

What price did you get for a new headlight and where from (supplier)?

Wondering if its possible to use the lens cover from a donor unit (used non LED that someone has replaced with an aftermarket perhaps). 'unstick' the cover from the donor and your damaged LED and swap the cover over. If (and its a big if) the covers can be removed without damage. The shape & profile is probably the same irrespective of LED or H

I have looked into this as well and most of what I have seen advises that this is a bit of a nightmare to do as they are very well stuck on and not easy to remove without damaging the donor unit - even when heating them in an oven to soften the bonding

Can't recall exactly where I saw the price but a new VW one was well over a grand. Not sure what OEM equivalents may be available though
