First time France

I was reading about how they are finding other ways that are a bit mysterious - likely using dodgy UK parking companies who have access to the DVLA database and want to make a bit of extra cash
Those devious ways include if you've applied for a Crit-air certificate and if you have an Autoroute pass. So my advice is to stay away from large cities and stay off motorways.

Given you can legally go 80 on the motorway it's not a huge ask!
Except in the rain or fog. I wasn’t sure how much it had to be raining to lower the speed limit so erred on the side of caution if it started even lightly raining.

OP; you can’t really go wrong in France. Get Park4Night app or something similar and you can easily see what sites are near your intended stopover location, filter by facility etc., but we’ve stayed on dozens of sites over the last few years and they’re almost universally a notch up from UK sites yet half the price or less. Municipal sites are basic but usually well located and decent enough (and very cheap).

France is a campervan holiday utopia from my perspective. If you get chance pop across to the Massif Central; not a million miles from the eastern Loire and another wonderful area.

We were in the Loire area a couple of months back and stumbled upon the town of Amboise which was a real gem. It has a former royal palace and a chateau where Leonardo Di Vinci sent his last years. His tomb is in the palaces chapel. The chateau has a wonderful garden which contain models of various of his inventions.
+1 Amboise ,

Huge municipal campsite is on an island in the middle of the River.
swimming pool opposite the main gates.
Di Vinci sculpture close to site entrance

Aldi / lidl (can't remember which one ) within very close walking distance to campsite.
Larger Supermarket superstore close to town.

Very historic and picturesque town.

Riverside cycle / walks etc.

Don’t bother coming just yet! Hasn’t stopped raining for the last two days and set to continue, pretty much all over unless you head to Nice!!!

Rule of thumb I was told was wipers on, it’s raining.

We’re off for our first French trip in MoHo to Bargemon near Nice.

We found a really nice camping near Da Vinci/Amboise: Les Saules in Cheverny; if you are less dependent you can also try France Passion, we're longtime members, brilliant way of travelling.
