T6.1 Ocean 150
Our T6.1 Ocean was purchased in 2024 from Breeze Poole with the 5 year plan (services/MOTs/warrantee) and is now due its first service (we didn't get the oil and filters done at 1 year). Although the purchase experience was good, Poole a long round trip for a service as we're based in Cambridge.

My original plan was Peterborough, who also seemed to have good California knowledge a couple of years ago, but they no longer seem to be part of the "California World". Huntingdon are our closest Van Centre. Do people think it's worth travelling extra to a service centre that is likely to deal with more California?

I haven't yet been able to lookup whether there are any outstanding service campaigns. I do have a sticking button on the rear climate control panel that would be good to fix.

Creating a list of options around Cambridge, does anyone have good/bad experiences with any of the following centres?

Campervan specific:
Breeze 3.5hrs, 160miles, 4.3*
Citygate Wooburn Green 1.75hrs, 70 miles, 4.2*
Group 1 Norwich, 1.5hrs, 66 mile, 3.2* (reviews mixed with cars)
JCB Sittingbourne, 1.5hrs, 86 mile, 4.2*
Swansway(?) Birmingham, 2hrs, 100mile, 4.3*

Van centre:
Vindis Huntingdon, 0.75hrs, 25 mile, 4.4* (reviews mixed with cars)
Group 1 Peterborough, 1hr, 47 mile, 4.1* (previously did sell Cali)
Group 1 Chelmsford, 1.1hr, 45 mile, 4.0* (van specific)
Citygate St Albans, 1hr, 42 mile, 4.2* (reviews mixed
with cars)

Thanks in advance!

Any VW Commercial Dealershhip can service the vehicle, after all it is just a converted VW Transporter.
The sticking button on the rear heater control is VW Transporter specific NOT California.

We have used Vindis at Huntingdon. They have at least one California expert. Technically, we have been very happy with the service that they provided - although I am sure that we could get the work done cheaper at an independent garage. The only issue is that their service desk has not been great in the past - not good at keeping the customer updated with status - so check before driving over to make sure that the van is ready :) However, on balance, we plan to keep using them.

Just to be clear work done includes:
Routine service (twice) and MOT (once)
Warranty work: replacement of rear seat (it got stuck down), replace roof sensors, and replace the rubber trim around the roof.
Accident damage: replaced off side wing mirror that got swiped off by a big white that was driving in the middle of the road.

There’s a good independent Beers of Houghton. They run and maintain their own transporter. Not sure how far from you that is :)
Thanks for the independent recommendation. However, I was specifically looking for official VW as it's covered as part of the 5 year plan that was on offer at the time of purchase. Once those are all done, we'll likely move to an independent garage.

That's really useful info, thanks for sharing your experience. Even better that they are our closest option.

I’ve used Vindis in Huntingdon several times over the years. They used to be California dealers, and the master tech there is familiar with the California.
